Best Time to Look for a Place
As soon as you realize you need housing—the earlier you look, the closer to campus and the cheaper the rent will be
College Prowler Take
Overall, finding off-campus housing is not as hard as many people make it out to be. With Temple’s two-year on and two-year off program, you can live on campus for your first two years, but after that you do have to move off campus. But Temple does have an office or department to help student find off-campus housing, and a lot of the time off-campus housing may be closer or cheaper than on-campus housing. Temple sponsors off-campus housing at Presidential City and Best Western. A shuttle runs often to transport students to these locations. Students residing in these areas have the option of having guests whenever they want and access to a different scene of Philadelphia. Another plus is that these apartments are actually apartments rather than suites or regular dorms with a communal shower. They are more spacious, and you have your own kitchen space. Lots of Temple students, as well as other university students, live at these locations, so you will still receive the same experience of the college atmosphere as living on campus. If you are interested in off-campus housing, there are many resources, such as the Student Assistance Center and Temple News, the student newspaper.

With off-campus housing, you pretty much have to go, like, 10 to 15 minutes away to get anything decent. Right around campus sucks because North Philly sucks. |

If you live too far away from campus, your grades will go down because you will miss class and take care of all the bills yourself—find roommates, it can be a lot of pressure. |
