Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Being open-minded and friendly is essential in making friends.
  • Do not forget to turn in your health form and shot record to the Health Center.

  • How insane and unpredictable the weather is.

  • How much everything costs.
  • How slow the admissions process is.
  • Most people don’t dress up to go to class.

  • That Greek life is not openly welcomed on this campus as much as on other campuses.
  • There are many limitations as far as opportunities go.
  • You must take a freshman orientation class from your department.
Tips to Succeed
  • Be on top of your game!
  • Be persistent if you need help.
  • Be positive and keep a smile on your face.
  • Be very, very, patient with all administrative employees.
  • Be yourself and be proud to be who you are; people will respond better to you.
  • Definitely try and relax at least once a week so you do not get overwhelmed and stressed out.
  • Do not assume anything, and never be ashamed to ask questions.
  • Don’t be afraid to talk and be opinionated.
  • Don’t be intimidated by the surrounding area; just be cautious and try to be safe after dark.
  • Get everything in writing.
  • Go to every class.
  • Look at the job market for the field that you plan to enter.
  • Only take on course loads that you can handle.
  • Talk to your advisors before you do anything.
  • Try and get to know the professors in your department; they will help you with anything if they know who you are.
  • Work hard and put just as much effort into your “core” classes as you would your major classes.

Social Scene

Coming from a diverse area of Indianapolis, I expected people in Nashville to be friendly. But since TSU is a HBC, I have been treated with the upmost disrespect from almost everyone. It has been hard making any friends since I am white. Its 2012 people!!

Social Life

Different academic clubs and fraternities available to students.For example chemisty,premed,forensics, and greek academic associated clubs are available. Outside of regular greeks and academic are also musical.Religious organizations, organizations for young men only, young women only, and a mix are available. There is a school pep organization outside of the student government association.

Traditions
  • Alma Mater: Each student must learn the alma mater in their freshman orientation classes. It is a necessity to know in order to survive football games and graduations. Some teachers will even test you on it to make sure you know it by heart.
  • Football: There is a pep rally for every home game. In April, there is a blue and white football game where upperclassmen battle underclassmen.
