Funds are hard to come by at most HBCUs. I found myself bouncing from office to office to find the right person to correct any financial mistakes in receiving my aid. There are lists of scholarships available at the financial aid office, but many of them go unused by the generally lazy and uneducated student body. The key to getting financial aid straight at this school is to submit everything extremely early. If you wait, there will be massive lines and all the funding (scholarships and work study) will be gone, so plan and talk to advisors for the next semester about a quarter to halfway through the current one to avoid any delays in receiving financial aid.

It was a hassle trying to complete the process in order for me to get the aid needed: people in financial aid kept sending me to different people, no one could really answer the questions I had, the wait to get assistance was extremely long, and I still feel that I didn't get as much as I did. I advise students to have EVERYTHING taken care of and to go ask questions and for clarification early on to avoid drama.

Financial aid came be how you make it out to be. It can go smoothly by the effort you put towards it.

They amount of financial aid that was awarded is not nearly enough to
cover the expeneses and my textbooks, but I'm going to keep trying until I get the aid that's needed.
