Laredo is known for being extremely hot; during the summer, temperatures typically rise above 100 degrees, so bring light clothing and remember to drink plenty of water. Some students even carry jugs of water to stay hydrated! Thankfully, the occasional cold front comes along during the winter and provides everyone with a nice breeze and a cloudy sky. In the spring semester, temperatures range from 80 to 90 degrees. There is also an occasional flood; the most recent being the flooding of the Rio Grande due to Hurricane Alex. However, Laredo does offer the perfect weather conditions for graduation.
One of the main weather issues future students should know about is the humidity here. In fact, it is probably the first thing any prospective student will notice when coming here! But, as with any learning experience like riding a bike or building a sandcastle, all it takes is getting used to it. The weather doesn’t really ever prevent students from attending class—people will still go even if it is boiling or, in some cases, freezing. TAMIU students are dedicated to their education!
