Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Sure, the dorm rooms are a bit small and have to be shared with a roommate, but there are so many conveniences of living on campus. Most dorms at A&M are pretty old, but there are many to choose from, including everything from suites to singles to coed and same-sex dorms, in every style and price range. It’s recommended that A&M students live on campus their first year to help them meet people and feel more like a part of the University. Most students do this and seem to be very happy with that decision. Plus, most residence halls have free washers, study rooms, and a kitchen on one of the floors.

A&M is divided into two parts: Northside and Southside. Residents on each side will tell you their side is the best. The dorms on Northside are generally cheaper, and the Northside dwellers, in general, are a close-knit, anti-frat, anti-Corps group. Southside is home to the Corps dorms and the Commons (Aston, Dunn, Krueger, and Mosher), which houses a lot of sorority girls. You’ll just have to take a guess about which side you think you’d like best because they really are very different. Some students room with friends from high school, but others prefer to go “potluck,” or have a roommate randomly assigned to them, which is the most common way of getting a roommate. There are benefits to both, but many people say that rooming with high school friends will ruin your friendship, and more often than not, it’s true. And, remember, this is college, so don't be scared to try something new—nearly everyone else will be in the same boat with you.

Dorms Are Crowded

I lived in the commons and the rooms are decent, but it is always loud. You can always hear everything going on in your hallway; people talking, listening to music, toilets flushing, doors closing. It can make you a little crazy. It was also a little frustrating that big events were held in the lobby because it would get extremely crowded. The bathroom cleaning service is extremely nice and convienient.

"The Dorms Look Like They Were Just Built!" -Rick Perry

Okay. The dorms on campus are atrocious. I have no idea why there are no nice dorms. Like, seriously. A&M is such a big school and I'm sure they have plenty of funding but A&M has some of the ugliest, run-down buildings. Everything is always under construction but I feel like it's an illusion because the buildings suck.

Modular=Nice and Expensive

Modular dorms are known to be big and roomy. This is true compared to many of the other dorms on campus. It also has its own bathroom which is only shared with your roommate, if you have one. However, the expense is upped $1000 more if you have these nicer benefits and it depends on the student's strict preferences of whether it's worth it or not.
