Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Most students agree that the computer system at A&M is more than adequate. The lab facilities are nice and big, and there are several of them around campus. However, it’s recommended to bring your own computer because there are very fast connections in the dorms, and working in your room is more convenient when writing last-minute papers. The network is great for file sharing and downloading, and you can even access it from an off-campus computer. The only thing that can be annoying is the limit on how many pages you can print for free. Three-hundred pages may seem like a lot at first, but you’ll be amazed at how quickly it gets used up. If you have your own printer, it’s advisable that you bring that, too. Once you use up your allotted number of free pages, it’s probably more convenient to print everything in your room.

Texas A&M has deals with almost every major company in the U.S., including Coca-Cola, Microsoft, Nike, and Verizon, and students get discounts and cool promotions. The computer deals, including discounts on various Microsoft products, are a steal and really benefit the students at a minimal cost. Overall, A&M has great labs, but things on your own electronics can sometimes be less irritating. Just remember, though, that whatever you do, be careful not to waste all your time on Facebook because before you know it you'll only have five minutes to turn in your paper!

Dorm Internet

In the dorms wireless access is not allowed. A majority of the students have personal lapotops and printers. In order to have internet in the student's room the laptop has to be registered and connected to a landline. I feel that this is a well thought out precaution.

Labs Are Crowded

The labs at the SCC are usually crowded. Wifi is available over most of campus, so a laptop is a very good alternative.

Labs Sometimes Get Crowded

Texas A&M has a lot of computers throughout the campus. Sometimes during Finals it can be overwhelming, but 90 percent of the time the labs have enough computers for students that need to use them.
