College Prowler Take
Most students agree that the computer system at A&M is more than adequate. The lab facilities are nice and big, and there are several of them around campus. You should bring your own computer, because there are very fast Ethernet connections in the dorms and working in your room is more convenient for writing last minute papers. The network is great for file sharing and downloading, and you can even access it from an off-campus computer. The only thing that can be annoying is the limit on how many pages you can print for free. One-hundred and fifty pages may seem like a lot at first, but you’d be amazed at how quickly it gets used up. If you have your own printer, it’s advisable that you bring that, too. Once you use up your allotted number of free pages, it’s probably more convenient to print everything in your room. Texas A&M has deals with almost every major company in the U.S., including Coca-Cola, Nike, Verizon, and Microsoft. The good thing about these deals is that students get discounts and cool promotions. The computer deals, like discounts on various Microsoft products, are a steal and really benefit the students at a minimal cost. A&M has great labs, but knowing how to do things yourself can sometimes be less irritating. Whatever you do, just be careful not to waste all your time on Instant Messenger.

A&M has a deal with Microsoft, and you can get free and cheap software if you’re a student. I know you can get Windows XP for pennies, which is highly-coveted software right now. They also have a deal with Verizon, and you can get discounted DSL service for off-campus computers. |

I would bring a computer or a laptop, if I were you. It’s more convenient. |

I remember one time the power went out in the SCC, and you heard 200 collective screams from people that hadn’t saved their work. I think that was a fluke, though. I’ve never heard of any other problems with the system going down. |

I have never really used the computer labs, but I haven’t heard many complaints from those who have. The campus network is free to students, so it is nice to have your own computer, if it’s an option. |

It is very nice to have your own computer. It saves lots of trips to computer labs, but there are multiple labs, and you can always find a computer. |
