Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Most students feel extremely safe on campus because there is a strong sense of camaraderie, and Aggies look out for other Aggies. However, living inside the Aggie Bubble leads many people to believe they’re always safe. In the not-so-distant past, there were reported cases of assault, and even rape, on campus, and there are also bike thefts here and there—a lot of students have expensive bikes, and there is really no way to track them, so make sure you lock up your bike well. However, A&M does a lot to protect its students. If you’re on campus, you can call the Corps of Cadets escort service at any time at night, and a Corps member in uniform will walk you anywhere on campus. The campus is pretty well lit, and there are emergency phones throughout. But, regardless of how many services are offered, safety is something every student needs to be actively conscious of. Never walk alone or put yourself into potentially dangerous situations, no matter how safe you think you might be.

As for health, A&M’s Beutel Health Center is where you can go if you’re feeling sick. Most services are free, but if you have to pay for something, it can be added to your student account. There are also urgent care centers located throughout College Station, as well as a couple hospitals in Bryan if you ever have an emergency. But, overall, A&M provides enough services to take good care of its Aggies when it comes to health and safety.

Police Service

It seems like the Texas A&M and College Station police service is always on very active duty. They always seem like they are taking care of problems and it seems like they are doing very well at their jobs.

Campus Safety and Security

A&M must be one of the top places to feel safe at as a student or anyone else. There are security guards walking around the campus constantly and not to mention you will see a few police officers every so often. A big feature would have to be the corps escorts, which is a service for students that allows them to call a number and have one of the corps guys walk you to anywhere on campus if it is late at night. Also another big thing is a system we have called Code Maroon which is a program that sends out emails and texts to phones telling them if there is anything going on on campus that they should look out for.

A&M Safety Review

I have never felt uncomfotable or unsafe on A&M's campus. Police officers both for the city and the campus are a regular site, blue emergency phones are prevalent, and overall its a safe campus. Even at night the paths are well lit, there is a corp escort service if needed, but I have never felt like I needed to take advantage of that offer because the campus is safe.

Beutel Health Center is sometimes referred to as “The Quack Shack.” But, hey, it is free!

The phone number for the Corps of Cadets escort is located on the back of all A&M student IDs, as well as other important numbers, like for the police department.
