Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Welcome to “Aggieland,” otherwise known as College Station. This small city definitely revolves around A&M—it seems like the entire city works around the University’s calendar, especially its athletic events. When there are home football games, it appears that the whole city shuts down to drive to Kyle Field, and you’ll see lots of people wearing maroon polos and sporting Aggie flags on their car antennas. However, for students coming from large cities, it will take some time to adjust. There's a lot of land, the air is clean, and while there is stuff to do here, it is limited. The cultural scene in College Station is lacking, but there does seem to be a good music scene. However, if students get bored—and they will—they can always take a quick road trip to Austin or Houston, both of which are only a couple hours away and offer an endless supply of things to do.

Overall, the city is very conservative. Drive down George Bush Drive, and you’ll pass the Barbara Bush Conference Center on your left, then the Bush School of Government and Public Service, which sits right next to the George Bush Presidential Library. College Station is also near the Bible Belt, so there is a strong Christian atmosphere in and around the city. This may not be the atmosphere everyone is looking for, but nonetheless, there is always that Southern hospitality. Overall, people either love or hate College Station, but at some point it becomes home.

Depends on What You Like

High point: $4 movies at Cinemark with student ID

It all depends on what you like, Post Oak (the mall) isn't that great but you can find stuff there if you really need to, Northgate (bar area) has enough places to get into trouble if that's what you like and there's always Aggie sporting events to attend. Find fun people to hang out with and it won't matter where you are anyways.

Home Town Feeling

There isn't a ton to do in college station but, the on campus traditions and events make up for it. There is always a sports event or something going on at the theatre. The rec has extended hours and lots of equipment to rent out. Also there is nothing better than being involved in the things like silver taps, muster, and bonfire.

Great Place to Live

College Station is awesome! There is always something going on. Organizations are constantly hosting events. Movies only cost $4 at the Cinemark. There are always sporting events that are really fun. My personal favorite is Aggie baseball. If you walk around on campus, students are always hanging out and hammocking. There are many places to shop. All in all it's a great place to live.
