Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Everyone remembers the food in high school. Well, once you get to college you can finally say goodbye to all of that now that you have the option of eating off campus whenever you want. And, for being such a small town, College Station actually has a wide variety of restaurants, and you will be able to find almost anything you crave, from Mexican food to soups and salads. Not to mention, College Station is home to the original Freebirds—a burrito joint where you can put whatever you want in a single burrito, and where you can sign your name on the wall.

Northgate houses many restaurants and bars that are within walking distance of campus. There are also some quaint little places in downtown Bryan for those special date nights. Also, since there’s such a strong international presence in the area, there’s also a good mix of authentic international restaurants. So, whether you’re looking for something quick and cheap to munch on with friends or a more formal evening, there is a place for you to eat in College Station.

Enough Variety

There's enough variety to find atleast one place you like. There are cheap places and a few nicer ones. Downtown Bryan has a lot of really cute restaurants to try out atleast once also.

Laynes Vs Canes

Everyone argues over which is better. It is chicken strips that are pretty cheap and Canes is a sponsor of Aggie athletics. Anytime a team reached a certain goal, they do buy one get one options. Most aggies would be upset, but I love Canes wayyyy more. Its cheap, and the special sauce is delicious!

Pretty Good

There is quite a variety of options of off-campus dining near TAMU. However, I gave it an A- because I feel like there could be more authentic places than just the chain restaurants. They do have a few scattered but it'd be nice to have more authentic options! There are convenient options on every side of the school. They have a variety of low-to-high priced options so you are not stuck paying a ton of money for convenience. They often have specials (since they know college students are cheap) and "Aggie Bucks" can be used at most restaurants in College Station. If I had to stick close to campus, I would probably choose Potbelly's for the lower prices and delicious options or for a little bit more of a bike ride or walk, DEFINITELY Fuego. It's opened late, authentic, and so good!

Did You Know? Aggie Bucks are accepted at most restaurants off campus. You register for them when you register for classes, and a credit is put on your student ID card. You can then pay for meals off-campus with your ID card. Aggie Bucks are also accepted at vending machines on campus, and you are sent a monthly statement over your Neo e-mail account telling you your balance and transactions.
