College Prowler Take
Most students feel extremely safe on campus. There is a strong sense of camaraderie, and Aggies look out for other Aggies. There are bike thefts here and there—a lot of students have expensive bikes, and there is really no way to track them. However, living inside the Aggie Bubble leads many people into believing they’re always safe. In the not-so-distant past, there have been reported cases of assault, and even rape, on campus. This is not to mention the crimes on campus that are not detected, mentioned, or reported.
However, A&M does a lot to protect their students. If you’re on campus, you can call the Corps of Cadets escort service at any time of the night and get a Corps member in uniform to walk you to your car. A lot of students take advantage of this service, especially at night. Safety is something every student needs to be actively conscious of. Never walk alone or put yourself into potentially dangerous situations, no matter how safe you think you might be. Texas A&M does a lot to curb crime on campus, including trying to keep the campus well lit at night. You’ll hear a lot about bike theft, but that doesn’t mean that it’s the only crime that exists.

I know several girls who’ve been raped on campus walking to their dorms at night. It still is not safe to walk around by yourself. Play it safe, even when you feel safe. |

I’ve had three bikes stolen. I finally just bought a cheap one from Wal-mart, and I haven’t had it jacked yet. |

This campus is very safe. There are people walking around constantly, even late at night, and there are always security guys around—not to mention all the lights. These are the benefits of being at a big school—the campus never goes to sleep. The worst thing that happened to me was when my bike got stolen! |

Safety is really good on campus. I have never felt unsafe, and if you ever do, there’s a number to call for Corps escorts on your identification card. |

The security is great. I am a female, and I don’t feel unsafe walking around campus by myself. |
