Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Both varsity and intramural athletics are popular at TCU. Football is the most popular sport on campus; basketball’s a distant second, and most others trail by a significant margin. Students enjoy supporting the varsity teams, especially when they are winning.

While football seems to dominate the athletic scene, Intramural sports allow athletes to compete in a wide array of sports at a variety of diferent competitive levels. With options ranging from inner tube water polo to sand volleyball, IM sports provide a variety of interesting and new athletic experiences for students—with a bit of time and money to spare. Intramural sports are offered in a variety of areas, with annual competitions and a fair amount of participation. The seven athletic facilities provide more than enough space for student athletes, and TCU is constantly building additional facilities for other sports.

Athletics

The TCU Athletics involvement has increased dramatically within the last three years. Students are in attendance at football and baseball games. There is an increasing amount of students attending basketball games as well. Female athlete games are not as popular among the student-body population but support is still represented.

Most Are Good

Football is great, and basketball was good at home this year. Baseball is also good, and moving into the Big 12 next year will also help out our athletics.

Go Frogs!

Athletics at TCU are awesome! The games are so much fun! A large portion of the student body is very involved in supporting numerous sports. Another note; the Rec Center is a great place to participate in some athletics for those not involved in teams!

Most Popular Sports

As it is in most of the South, football is huge here. The TCU football team has won numerous Mountain West Conference championships in recent years, and it is also the alma mater of San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson (‘01). Attendance of football games is unrivaled in any other TCU varsity sport, although men’s basketball and other varsity sports do have reasonable attendances.

Most Overlooked Teams

With football getting much of the fame and glory, most other sports are generally overlooked. Other sports, like golf and women’s soccer, don’t receive as much publicity, though lucrative scholarships are still provided for these athletes as well. Tickets are sold for most other sports, and there are still fans of every sport on campus.

School Spirit

The students of TCU, in general, take a good deal of pride in their school. From the stickers on their cars, to the sold out football games, TCU students clearly take pride in the school. It is not uncommon to see the student section at sporting events as a sea of purple, especially during football season. Students don’t just show their spirit at games—TCU gear is a common sight on campus, as well.

Getting Tickets

Tickets are easy to purchase in advance at the Coliseum box office. Admission to athletic events is free with a student ID, but if you’re bringing non-students, you will have to buy tickets. Most events offer affordable tickets to a variety of events.

Best Place to Take a Walk

The best place to take a walk is definitely around the Greek. It has markers along the sidewalk that say how long you’ve been walking along the two-mile circle.
