Campus police officers are licensed Texas police officers and, therefore, uphold both TCU policies and state law. Campus police don't generally go around with the sole purpose of catching intoxicated students or underage drinkers, but they will regulate students who pose a threat to themselves or others. The campus police have a low tolerance for drug and alcohol violations, but they do not typically go out of their way to bust students.
While the line may be blurred with alcohol (no pun intended), campus police take drug violations very seriously. The minimum penalty for a first-time violation is disciplinary probation for a year and a mandatory drug-abuse education and/or treatment program. While many students know people who drink or smoke pot, most students do not feel pressured to do drugs, and it is not a big part of campus life.
