Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Drinking is big here!
  • Parking is really difficult.
  • Sorority girls dominate Colby Hall.
  • The food on campus is way overpriced.
  • The sheer number of organizations is overwhelming (Greek and non-Greek).
  • The tuition rate changes frequently.
  • There’s a real lack of diversity here.
Tips to Succeed
  • Ask around about professors before you take their classes.
  • Buy your books early.
  • Make a schedule. Even if you don’t stick by it, it is a good thing to have.
  • Never make a friend a roommate, but do your best to make a roommate your friend.
  • You should get to school early for a good parking spot. There are a lot of cars, and parking is somewhat limited.

Facts

Traditions
  • “Riff Ram Bah Zoo”: This is a TCU cheer that sounds like jibberish to anyone not affiliated with the University, and maybe even to some who are. There are verses to this seemingly unintelligible song, and most students can recite them by the time they graduate. It is one of the oldest college cheers in the country.
  • Frog Camp: Frog Camp is an optional program designed to introduce incoming freshmen to college life and to other incoming freshmen. There are several Frog Camps from which to choose, ranging from adventure to service-based. Students are responsible for the cost of Frog Camp, but most students agree that the experience and friendships forged there are well worth it.
  • Pancakes!: The Ol’ South Pancake House is the traditional hangout for any hungry TCU student. The menu is cheap and the 24-hour restaurant has been a popular attraction of TCU students for decades.
  • Purple & White: Purple is a school color, and you’ll find it everywhere and on everything. Students can buy Frog gear, or other purple clothing at the bookstore. The purple signifies royalty, and white, the corresponding school color, represents a good, clean game.
  • Rubbing the Horned Frog: It is tradition to rub the nose of the Horned Frog in between Sadler and Reed for good luck before a test or a big game.
Urban Legends
  • All of the tuition goes to refurnishing the flowerbeds.
  • If a bus hits you as you cross University Drive, you get free tuition.
  • If the chancellor hits you with his car, you get free tuition.
  • If your roommate dies, you get an A.
  • The squirrel population is trained and imported from Connecticut.
  • There is a pool on the roof of Milton Daniel.
