Texas Weather Is Pretty Crazy

B+

Since it is Texas, the weather changes almost daily, it seems. One day, it was raining and hailing in the morning, then sunny and warm in the afternoon, then chilly by the time evening rolled around. You just have to be prepared for any type of weather. The sunny warmth of the morning may not last all day. Summers get pretty hot here, around 105 degrees. Winters get relatively chilly at around 15 degrees being the coldest.

There is a load of housing opportunities, especially if you're in Greek life. They are close to campus and lots of Greeks like to keep houses within the fraternity/sorority.

Greek life is huge at TCU. If you're a guy and you're not Greek, you're done for unless you have very good communicating skills. If you're a girl, you have a few more options. Greek life definitely runs campus. There have been recent movements by students to shift the power away, however.

I am not going to pussyfoot around this one- unless you join a Greek organization, the nightlife isn't great. However, if you do so, the nightlife is great; there are always mixers or parties going on. There are clubs in downtown Fort Worth, and bars right across from campus if you're 21.

The food at the Brown Lupton University Union (BLUU, pronounced "Blue") is better than most colleges I've been to. However, it can get kind of old, so just mix it up. I wouldn't buy a huge meal plan; it's a waste of money

The dorms are pretty nice; however, Clark dorm always seems to smell. I personally would recommend living in either Foster or Milton Daniel, and I would avoid living in Brachman because it is far from central campus.

The dining hall is pretty nice. The food is great, but you will get sick of the same thing everyday. Thank the lord that we have frog bucks. There are like 10 options within 5 minutes of school to use the frog bucks that you get along with your meal plan. 1873 is always a good choice for the drunk munchies.

The campus police are really cool, and as long as you don't walk around openly with alcohol or do drugs in front of the police no one cares. It's not a good idea to smoke weed in the dorms. Kegs are an automatic $1000 fine. Don't be loud and obnoxious and you will be fine.

The campus police can be strict when it comes to drinking and doing drugs, but you can tell it is because they are concerned for our safety. It's pretty serious if you get caught and gets more serious the more times you get caught. Just don't be obnoxious about it.

The atmosphere in Fort Worth is...

The atmosphere in Fort Worth is very country. Not country in the sense of hillbillies, but in the sense of western-country. Many people wear cowboy boots on a regular basis. There are a couple of small universities scattered throughout the Metroplex, such as one of TCU's biggest rivals, Southern Methodist University in Dallas. The zoo is really cool and fun here. It's been consistently named one of the best zoos in the country.

Public transportation is good...

Public transportation is good around TCU. The Fort Worth bus system runs right through campus and you can usually get anywhere on it. There is also a train that runs back and forth between Dallas and Fort Worth with many stops throughout the metroplex. There is also a bus that drives students from the parking lot to wherever they need to go on campus late at night.

I would say it is fairly diverse. The majority is definitely Caucasian, but other ethnic groups definitely have their presence. TCU has a reputation for being really rich, but it also has a lot of money to give in scholarships so it is more ethnically diverse than most people realize. Politically I would have to say it is largely moderate.

The food in the BLUU/Market Square (the main cafeteria) is better than the food at other school I've visited, but honestly that isn't saying much. Usually I can find something I like, but once or twice a week I end up eating out instead. Outside of Market Square the best places are definitely Dutch's, Potbelly's, and Fuzzy's Taco Shop. My advice would be to buy a lot of Frog Bucks; you are going to need them.

Most of the dorms at TCU are really nice. Clark, Shirley, Foster, and Moncreif are fairly new and the best dorms for freshmen. The Tom, Brown, Pete, Wright apartments and the King/Carter/Samuelson/Wright commons are really nice too, but they are for sophomores and upperclassmen. Milton Daniel, Colby Hall, and the Greek community are in desperate need of renovation, but at least TCU has plans to change that in the near future.
