College Prowler Take

The combined efforts of the campus police and Froggie Five-0 make TCU students feel safe on campus. The patrol service, which includes foot, bike, automobile, and even Segway patrol officers, ensures the 24-hour protection of students and University property. TCU also offers free self-defense classes for added safety. Despite these security measures, every now and then crime still occurs, mostly in the form of burglary.

TCU has made several security updates over the past few years to try and combat what crime we have on campus. Emergency phones and lampposts have been added along with Froggie Five-0. The Rape Aggression Defense system (RAD) helps female students take charge of their overall well being and provides tips and techniques for avoiding rape and assault. TCU’s police department works overtime to ensure student safety by updating existing resources and creating new programs for the benefit of the students.

I feel very safe on our campus. You have your occasional theft here and there but it is not overly common. There are emergency poles spread all over campus and you always see the TCU police driving around campus. TCU is unique in it's Froggy 5-0 program where male students drive golfcarts after dark and escort female students around campus free of charge. This way, if a female and her friends don't want to walk a long distance alone at night they can simply call the hotline and get picked up. This is common for rides from main campus to the Greek. There are also shuttles that run from the overflow and freshman lots to main campus all day long. I personally feel safe walking alone at night on campus.

There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of crime on the campus. The main crime seems to be thefts. I rarely hear of any other major crimes being committed. One thing that our college does to insure the safety of its students is the emergency poles on campus. There is at least one illuminated emergency pole visible from every point on campus so that if someone is being chased or is scared or anything, they can hit the button and the cops will be there almost instantly. All of the poles have speakers in them that patch straight to the TCU police station and the victim will be able to talk to a cop via the speaker. There is also a system of transportation from any point on campus to another at night for girls to take if they are scared to be alone at night.

I felt safe living on campus until two girls were raped in a nearby apartment building. However, I live in an apartment building that has 24-hour security and gates, so I feel a lot safer. TCU certainly doesn’t have abnormal safety issues, though.

The security on the TCU campus is very good. If at anytime you feel uncomfortable where you are on campus, the security guards or Froggie Five-0 will escort you to your destination free of charge. There are also special blue-light lampposts around the campus to contact Security, if you are in need of assistance.
