Different options in dining halls with different menus. After a while of eating the same is tiring.

Lots of shoping options with a huge outlet mall and chain stores. The river is popular for the whole family and students. Since is a small town, the students are very active in giving back to the community

Parking is very scarce and always crowded and awful.

Dining options were great when living in the dorms.

Texas state has a great range of diversity. One of the best things about the campus.
College Senior 2013-08-08T03:37:32Z
Good way to meet new people. They are redoing most dorms.

The computers at Texas State are up to date every day. There is wifi all across the campus as well allowing you to use your own computer too. A big pro about the technology at Texas State is that if your computer ever stop working properly, there is a technology group on campus where you can take your broken computer to get fixed by the experts there for free!

There are many attractions around the area at Texas State. It's a great place to meet new friends everyday.

The pros of off-campus housing are there is always something interesting thing to do, many of the apartments and houses are also near the campus making transportation not difficult. The main cons of off-campus housing is that the parking is not very good, if your not at school early, you will have a long walk on hills to get to school.

I am a student in the college of Education and I adore my program. The classes are not ridiculously hard but they do require you to work hard and put in a lot of hours. You are required to take so many hours you do not even have time to minor, which I believe is the only downfall. All of the professors at this college are very smart, experienced, kind, and always willing to help. My senior year I will work almost full time off campus as a student teacher to gain real classroom experience. This college really connects you to the outside world.

My education major was pretty easy to get into. You need to make the required grades on the prerequisite classes before entering the college of education. If your grades qualify and you just apply your basically in. My suggestion is if your interested in becoming an education major join the teaching club. It may sound dorky but you will make great connections ad they will help you gain experience with children and help you until you graduate. Also they are incredible nice.

Although it does get very hot in the summer months there is a beautiful, clean, cold river everyone loves to cool off in. It is not very humid which I adore coming from Houston Texas so it doesn't feel as hot as my home town. In the fall and Winter it is great. I hate the cold and the coldest it usually gets is in the 60's. There can be snow but only every few years.

The are many different kinds of people at Texas State simply because we have such a large population. A large majority of the school is white but every year the school is becoming more and more diverse. Also a lot of the students here a very strong Christians which is fine although I personally seen incidences where they have come together and completely bashed in public students who were not heterosexual. The one thing we do have at our school that I think excels more than other universities is or LBGTQ group that is widely supported by our professors and staff. Employees even where pins and post signs in their room that they support the group and are willing to help anyone.

I am Studying to be an Elementary Education Major therefore we must take many hours of on the job training as student teachers. This is the equivalent to an unpaid internship. As a student teacher you work hands on in real public school areas helping the classroom teacher and their students. I work one on one with students struggling to finish their work on time. Help with classroom management, create lesson plans and teach the curriculum with the help of the class room teacher. I can not think of any better preparation to becoming a successful teacher than this.

there are buses that take you from austin to san marcos as well as around the campus from parking areas to classes. and at night there are officers that will help girls get from the library to home safely

Guys & Girls:
the clothing choice there is a normal appropriate choice. the students are hard working and friendly. The guys and girls are not judgmental in any way and welcome you to the school with open arms.

The drug scene is discussed with you right from the beginning at orientation and tell you that if they do see it, hear of it, or smell it you will be suspended from school.

Guys & Girls:
Mostly everyone don't care at all what they where mostly girls and guys where shorts with a simple shirt. Even from "goodwill" they don't care. Guys are usually blond and tall and girls as well.
College Junior 2013-08-04T08:48:04Z
Health & Safety:
Its ok during the day but during the night it feels unsafe since there is almost no cops to even guard you. Some spots of the campus are really dark.

There is many organizations that involves people for the campus. But one thing I hate is that there is no 24hr library even in finals is not open all the week. Its very crowed in finals almost everything gets full even in the floor there is people. They place is not a good environment since its super hot outside and the library is not open a bunch of hours even the 24hr lab closes in the weekends. What a joke. That push me to rent my own apartment to study.

The parking permit for people that live in the dorms is about $500 it increased 50% in less than an year. The parking is a nightmare no parking even after you got that $500 parking tickets. There is parking in parking lots but for a few 2 hours its 8 dollars. Its just not a good experience so I ended up moving close enough so I can walk and forget about the parking. The only way you will find parking if you go at 5-6 a.m.

Apartments are everywhere and the city is continuing to build more, finding a place to live is not a big issue and prices vary all over. Most are reasonably priced but of course there is a few outlandish one. Parking is pretty decent at all apartments, weekends become pretty busy so i would suggest if you want a specific parking spot then don't leave.
