San Marcos is a nice area with easy access to San Antonio and to Austin. There are a lot of fun things to see and do in both cities.

Every college has bad parking situations, thats just how it it. Texas State has actually made an effort to have a decent amount of available parking. I know that the prices for parking permits next year are going up a little bit, but there is going to be a whole new parking garage for students to park in. Parking isn't great, but it isn't a nightmare!

There are a lot of the regular chain restaurants. The local mexican food restaurants are great though! There are a few really beautiful scenery restaurants on the river that are nice to bring family to when they visit, or just go with friends. There are a few really cute coffee shops that are great for studying in a warm atmosphere if you're wanting to get away from the library.

Greek life is present on campus, but doesn't determine your social status in any way. A lot of guys tell me they wish they would have pledged a fraternity, but I dont often hear girls wishing they had gone through rush. The date parties that the greeks have are a lot of fun, and so are the formals. If it's something you're are interested in I would definitely do it. If its not, there are so many other things to get involved in on campus!

The parking is AWFUL, there are never enough spaces. Permits are wildly expensive and you get tickets at the drop of a hat.

it is a good program, and most of my professors have a lot of experience in the course they are teaching.

This University has a great Mass Communications program, so my major has been enjoyable so far.

Classes are never cancelled unless the roads are completely iced over to where the bus system can not run. Other than that, classes meet no matter what the weather.

It is very involved on campus and a good majority of students are aware of it.

Some are excellent, while others are too overpriced for it being a college town.

Parking at Texas State is horrible. There is simply not enough parking for everyone. Students can buy an expensive parking pass but it does not guarantee them a spot. And, parking services is very strict and give out tickets like candy. My advice would be to just take the tram. It is not worth a ticket or getting towed! And you will get in trouble, even if you park there for ten minutes. Don't try arguing with parking services either!

For my undergrad, I majored in psychology and if I could do it all over again, I would! I strongly suggest the psychology program at Texas State. There are so many brilliant and diverse professors within this major that go above and beyond in their classes. In addition, there are so many interesting things I have learned throughout my courses which have helped me so much with my graduate classes. I did really well in all my undergraduate courses and graduated with a 3.8 GPA which led me to pursue my education in graduate school at Texas State University. When choosing a career, I definitely want to do something that helps people, such as counseling or becoming a psychologist.

Health & Safety:
In my opinion, Texas State is really good about maintaining the safety of students and faculty. If there ever was a situation, such as a bomb threat or school shooting, the clocks in all classrooms discreetly notify the students and professors of these situations and the university goes into lockdown. In addition, all students are sent an alert text to the cell phones or an e-mail. All over campus, there are brightly lit emergency call boxes that students can reach if they are in danger. The student simply pushes the blue button and university police will show up in seconds.

The transportation at Texas State is very convenient for many students. Our school has horrible parking so the majority of students living in San Marcos take trams from their apartments to campus. The students who commute typically park at the football stadium and take a tram to campus. The university also provides late night transportation for those who live on campus. If your dorm is on the other side of campus and it is ten at night, you can call the Bobcat Bobbies to pick you up and escort you safely home.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
