In San Marcos, there isn't much to do. There is a bar, and a coffee shop and a lot of restaurants which is nice if you are a local and can drive there, or eat meat. There is no vegan food on campus (aside from freshens, and rice chips) and there are many fast food options. It seems like a pretty boring town, with lots of hard core partiers. As far as the school itself, the atmosphere is nice. People seem relaxed and no one is rude to anyone (at least visibly) it is a very live and let live type of environment there, which is nice.

Guys & Girls:
Having attended UT Austin, I can say that I like the looks of the students at Texas State much better. While at UT Austin, I felt like there really were not many minorities enrolled, but at Texas State there are many, it is a very diverse college in comparison, there are also older students there as well. They even have a non traditional students organization on campus to be enrolled in if you so choose.

I am in the College of Applied Arts and Sciences. So far my experience with this program has not been a good one, the people in the college are rude and unhelpful, and even make fun of you for being confused. No one there takes what you are trying to do seriously, unfortunately. I have had better experiences outside of this program, but I have only dealt with two people in this program so far, so the rest might be better. I really hope it will be, or else I may have made a big mistake.

Health & Safety:
Here is what I know. The school gives alerts about safety issues to your email, which if you can access that on your phone you should be good, if you can't then it won't really help you. It is fairly empty at night, which I don't really like, and isn't that well lit. I am a commuter and taking the shuttle home at night was a little scary, but luckily the LBJ building was open so I could wait inside. I have visited their health center once, and found the experience to be quite pleasant under the circumstances. It is a very large building and the staff is very professional.

I came to Texas State University because I was transferring from a vocational program in Photographic Technology at Austin Community College and wanted all of my credits I had earned to count for something, and they did here, in their Applied Arts and Sciences program. I would say so far I have had one excellent professor and one very poor professor, so to average the two out I would have to give the school a B rating. I have only taken two classes so far, and do not feel like I can accurately say, however.

Overall, Texas State is a great school. The professors do care about you and how you do in their class (that is, IF you attend class) and the people are super nice. Career services is super helpful even after you graduate and the organizations on campus provide a place of comfort for all types of people with all sorts of interests. The only crappy part was the parking...but I think that's an issue with a lot of schools.

Being a marketing major at Texas State it great. The business school is in the top 5 percentile in the nation and will definitely make you work hard for your degree but it is totally worth it. The professors are really cool, always available and willing to help you out if you need it.

Fill out all paperwork completely and as soon as it can be completed. Take note of any special circumstances that may change your need after paperwork is completed - you may be eligible for funds not awarded.

The drug scene at Texas State University is not really big.

Texas state has a huge recreational center with 2 floors. They have opportunities to join intermural teams for all sports and places to play in and outside the rec. there are many Restaurants around campus and on campus that are not too expensive. Perfect for college students. Texas state has so many opportunities to socialize.

The buses run good, but many times the busses are completely pack and you can't get on. But other than that they are great. Run often and hold many people.

I love the bus shuttles at my school. However, the only bad thing I can think of is there isn't one located at the apartments I'm living in. Sometimes during certain times of the day, there should be more buses running because they tend to be filled up really quickly. One good thing about the buses is that they're always running and makes it easier to get to campus.

Health & Safety:
I've never really felt unsafe on campus, even late at night. I usually notice school campus police patrolling certain areas of the campus and that makes me feel safe. I also like how there are escort services so you don't have to walk back to your car or dorm alone.
College Senior 2012-12-30T21:35:46Z
The weather isn't so bad. The only thing I don't like about going to class or getting around campus is when it's raining.
College Sophomore 2012-12-27T07:19:11Z
not the best but the school is pretty involved with athletics and team spirit. i learned to love texas state!

Parking is crazy. Students use it more like a last resort kind of deal. There is parking available at certain big locations, but most of the time its kind of far from where you want to be. The good side of this is that you can park wherever you want after 5 p.m.
College Junior 2012-12-20T19:30:57Z
Campus housing is not too bad. I did so in Blanco Hall for my first year and everything was good. I met a lot of people and the commodities were great. You even get your bathroom cleaned once a week or something like that. There is also a big variety for what you want and what you want to pay for and all of the halls are right next to campus.
College Junior 2012-12-20T19:25:23Z
Parking isn't all that great at Texas State, especially if you have a commuter parking sticker. It's a lot easier to find parking if you have a resident parking sticker, but even then, it's fairly difficult to find a parking spot. Sometimes it's so difficult to find a spot that it almost feels as if the school just sells parking stickers to get money, regardless of the amount of parking spots available on the campus.

There are definitely a various amount of races at Texas State University, and this statement also applies to the economic background, political beliefs, religion, sexual orientation, etc. Anyone who attends Texas State will find themselves making friends with people of all sorts of backgrounds.
College Junior 2012-12-20T19:17:06Z
The transportation at Texas State is exceptional. They run frequently, and have drop offs at all the apartments surrounding the school campus, as well as at various places. Plus, they're free!
College Junior 2012-12-20T19:13:04Z
There is a wide selection of apartments in San Marcos. To help you find one you can look online, ask for help at the University, or go to the local apartment finders that offer their services for free. For students, the prices are quite good and the locations are great too. Another good thing about all of the apartments is that the bobcat tram, the bus that takes you to and from school, is available despite your location. Good location, good selection, great price.
College Senior 2012-12-20T05:28:43Z
I use the computer labs every day at my school and they are great. The service is almost never down and the printers are very reliable and you just pay a fee in your tuition so you don't have to worry about it on a day to day basis.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
