Texas State is such a friendly, open, accepting university. It's not a super huge college, so the people aren't stuck-up or cocky like you might find at bigger universities. It's very relaxed on campus, and there's a very chill atmosphere surrounding the city of San Marcos, as well. You can feel at home at Texas State, and you'll be surprised to find how easy it is to make friends.
Texas State is superb in making sure its students are offered the opportunities they need to gain skills that will make them the most competitive in their field. Being a smaller university makes it even easier for academic advisers and professors to take the extra time to talk to students one-on-one about their future career paths. The professors and advisers are always eager to help.
A large majority of students smoke pot. MDMA has grown in popularity in the last year and it's really taking a toll on the sophomore class numbers. There aren't any programs in place to stop students from getting into drugs or seeking help on how to stop.
The closest places are fast food, unhealthy options. The square in town has so OK places, but they don't offer student discounts since that's the majority of their customers.
The food is terrible. It's full of salt, preservatives and by-product nonsense. Chartwells is our catering service that provides us with food and it's really just no good. Make your own PB&J's in your room and save the money on the expensive meal card. Waiting to get an apartment is well worth the wait.
Students who are out late at night are not monitored at all. They can access a lot of buildings and do whatever they please. There really needs to be more people walking around and monitoring the campus late at night to prevent the vandalism and sexual assaults that often happen.
I am not eligible for financial aid. The middle class gets the short end of the stick
