Most Texas Tech students speak favorably of campus strictness on campus. Generally, the student mantra is, "No one will bother you if you don't bother anyone else." As long as you stick to the rules, you should be fine. If you respect the police, they will respect you. However, campus police can be pretty strict in regards to underage drinking and drug use, so if you are going to partake in either of these activities, be careful. Overall, the campus police really just want to keep students safe, so they're overly strict about drugs and alcohol for a good reason.

In terms of things to be wary of, parking can be a big deal. If you do not have a parking pass, the police will write you up, no questions asked. Some students call the parking cops, "Parking Nazis." In terms of academics, the University has an academic integrity code. There is absolutely no tolerance for cheating, no matter what class you may be in. Professors will run papers through a computer system that reads them and will highlight things directly taken from the Internet, so chronic cheaters and plagiarists should probably look elsewhere.
