Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

It’s not until you graduate and bump into other Lubbock alums that you realize the bond this small town builds between people. Once you have lived in Lubbock, you just get it. It may not have the best shopping, the prettiest landscape, or the greatest service at the one trillion fast food and chain restaurants, but that’s what everyone loves about it! A lot of the students who go to Tech come from big Texas cities like Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, or Austin. Many have been to the classiest restaurants and shopped at the best stores—but on our little college budgets, does that stuff really even matter?

Living and breathing Lubbock (even when it smells like cow pies) imbues a person a with a character that you can’t obtain by going to college in a major city. Lubbock is in the middle of nowhere, which is no doubt a challenge that some people will take head-on, while others will head straight back to that 84 stretch. Those who choose to stick it out will forever have the ability to find fun in any situation. A good time is found in the people you are with, and that makes Lubbock’s atmosphere unbeatable. Lubbock is small, but not too small; slow, but not too slow; and fun, but not too fun. Either you love it or you hate it, and that’s the bottom line.

Small City, Great People, Plenty to Do

Many people come to Lubbock, Texas and think that there´s nothing to do, but many others fall in love and make it their home. It´s not necessarily a college town, but there are plenty of dance halls, bars, libraries, and the campus itself always has TONS TONS TONS of different activities. For those looking for a less typical experience, there are museums, art galleries (including a craft/art show every first Friday of the month). There´s also laser tag, mini golf, go kart racing, a prarie dog reserve (which is highly entertaining to watch), the Buddy Holly museum, 2 planetariums, lakes where you can water ski, and more city parks per capita than any other city or town in Texas. The people that get bored in Lubbock just don´t know where to look. Also, the people in Lubbock are among some of the friendliest I´ve met.
