Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Nineteenth Street, just east of University Avenue, is fast food alley, and it is located conveniently on the way home from all the bars and clubs in the Depot District. When you look beyond the dozens of McDonald’s and Whataburgers and Chili’s and IHOPs, you’ll see that Lubbock has plenty of small-town treasures that you will eventually grow to miss.

Lubbock is in the beef business, and restaurants such as Caprock and Tom & Bingo’s keep visitors satisfied. Breakfast is the best meal of the day in Lubbock, and you are guaranteed to have a great one at mom-and-pop places like George’s Restaurant and Ranch House Restaurant. Italian food holds its own with the help of chains such as Carino’s and the local favorite, Stella’s. Lubbock is not the best place to turn for your next great Tex-Mex meal, though. Places like Abuelo’s, On the Border, and Casa Olé are tasty, but they can be found all over Texas. Chimy’s is the best local Mexican restaurant, but it is a bar, and its strong margaritas and midnight closing time always keep it crowded. When it comes to Asian cuisine, Thai Pepper could rival the Thai food in any big city. As for fine dining, Lubbock restaurants make valiant efforts, but something is always a little off. Great presentation is usually paired with poor flavor, or great food comes with terrible service. Lubbock dining won’t ever break the bank, but it also has the power to make you grow to love cooking.

Really Great!

There's a vast variety of dining places near campus. Most are right across and can be reached by just a short walk. They're all in one main street, but as stated earlier, there are so many option. Most also provide student discounts, which is great news for a college student.
