The best time to start looking for a place and a roommate is anytime second semester. There is more than enough apartment-style housing in Lubbock to accommodate students. If you are looking to live in a house, “For Rent” signs start popping up at the end of each semester. The best way to get a house you know you’ll like is to rent one of your friends’ houses when they move out. Also, keep an eye on the classified sections of the Lubbock Avalanche Journal or the Daily Toreador.
Once you have spent your year in the dorms and you know which great friends can double as great roommates, off-campus housing is easy to find. There is a pretty good split between those who decide to live in a house and those who decide to live in an apartment. For the house dwellers, the best place to live is Tech Terrace. This is a neighborhood right across from campus with an eclectic group of old houses. The best way to find a house in Tech Terrace is to go to the neighborhood located between 19th and 34th streets and University and Indiana avenues and scan yards for the “House For Rent” signs.
If sophomores are not quite ready for the responsibility of either living in a house or buying new furniture, they can live in one of the many fully-furnished apartment complexes. In these complexes, each roommate signs his or her own lease and gets a personal bathroom and a bedroom fully furnished with a desk, dresser, bed, and mattress. There are three complexes that all sit side by side directly across from campus (not to mention the football stadium). It is very easy to find rooms in these apartment complexes. Whether you choose to live in a house or an apartment, furnished or not, it is important that it is close to campus. The parking situation on campus is always being complained about and is slow to change, so location of living is everything.

Tech Terrace
I would say that as far as location to campus the Tech Terrace neighborhood is the best option. It is within walking distance of campus and has lots of options to choose from. They are a little more pricey because of location and the fact that it is not an apartment complex.

Off-Campus Housing in Lubbock
Options as far as off-campus housing are great...many choices at a variety of price ranges, depending on amenities, location in relation to campus, bus route, etc. Overall, fantastic choices and great realtors!

Great Off Campus Communities.
Even though the prices for near Campus apartments are pretty expensive, the events that the complex holds and proximity to campus makes living here a great place to live. The majority of off-campus apartments are student housing and. The complexes are very friendly all gated and very nice looking.
