Once you have spent your year in the dorms and you know which great friends can double as great roommates, off-campus housing is easy to find. There is a pretty good split between those who decide to live in a house and those who decide to live in an apartment. For the house dwellers, the best place to live is Tech Terrace. This is a neighborhood right across from campus with an eclectic group of old houses. The best way to find a house in Tech Terrace is to go to the neighborhood located between 19th and 34th streets and University and Indiana avenues and scan yards for the “House For Rent” signs.
If sophomores are not quite ready for the responsibility of either living in a house or buying new furniture, they can live in one of the many fully-furnished apartment complexes. In these complexes, each roommate signs his or her own lease and gets a personal bathroom and a bedroom fully furnished with a desk, dresser, bed, and mattress. There are three complexes that all sit side by side directly across from campus (not to mention the football stadium). It is very easy to find rooms in these apartment complexes. Whether you choose to live in a house or an apartment, furnished or not, it is important that it is close to campus. The parking situation on campus is always being complained about and is slow to change, so location of living is everything.
