Athletics at Tech

The Red Raider football team is average. The basketball team is pretty decent. The track team is above average. The fans are very supportive and almost too fanatic at times!

So far in the college of Ag, all of my professors have been friendly and have generally answered all questions and emails quickly and efficiently. They seem to care that you do well in your classes and give you opportunities to succeed.

Interested and Interesting Teachers

I came to Texas Tech with the idea that college professors treated you like a face in the crowd. But at Tech, the teachers were interested in me and they were interested in the subject. They treated my like a person, not just a student.

Will Always Love It Here

If there could be a A++ option for the grade I would personal pick it. I absolutely LOVE Texas Tech! Everyone that you meet here are wonderful, they are nice and helpful. Game days are my favorite, I love the tradition that Tech has. I also love how the buildings look, an old spanish home sort of style, very inviting when I first saw the campus. The learning environment I also love, its not easy to pass here, you have to work hard to get the grade.

Mostly White

When you look around you see mostly normally dressed, middle class white students. Every once in a while you will see Hispanic and African American. The school is putting in effort to make it more diverse though.

We Are United

Our school has many different organizations to gather different races together. There is no discrimination in our school even though there is a higher percentage of White people among all the other races.

TECH Dining 101

Dining on campus at Texas Tech is simple and easy, you start each semester with a set amount of "dining bucks" which can be spent anywhere on campus. At every eating area prices for menu items are shown in dollar price, that price is discounted if you pay with dining bucks, up to 50% at some places. There is quite a verity if eating places around, Chick-fl-a and Quiznos, Asian style food, Tex-Mex, sandwich shops, a few home-style cooking places, all you can eat buffets and more. The operating hours of these places can be a little confusing, learn the hours soon or go hungry! Watch out for the Sam's place convenience stores, they are overpriced and don't offer a big discount, however they're open late and have everything. Also keep your eyes peeled for free food, there is plenty of it around if you look, check the Raider Wall for postings about it, look out for coupons and any student event will have free food somewhere.

Great Apartments

There are so many places to live that are close to campus. Not only are there apartments, but there are student houses as well. There are a variety of apartments, from one-bedroom, one-bathroom, to four-bedroom, four-bath. There are apartments and houses right across from campus or farther away if that is what you are looking for. The only downside is the prices. Student houses are definitely pricey but they are really nice. The farther away from campus you get, the less expensive apartments are.

Professors Care About Your Learning Experience

Texas Tech has many students, but still manages to keep upper level class sizes down in the Biology department. This really allows you to develop a relationship with the professors. They are all there to help you learn and see you succeed. The student has to put in the effort to get to know the professor, and if you do, it definitely has its benefits. College professors are great for letters of recommendation for higher level education and all professors are willing to write them. The biology program is great!

Greek Life at Texas Tech

The Greek Life at Texas Tech has a good affect on the social atmosphere in a way. I love to watch them perform and step. But along with Greeks is fighting, beefs, and drama. Greeks are viewed as snobby and know it alls by the Non-Greeks. There isnt really any Greek housing available but I know that many of the sororities and fraternities have their own Greek house.

Nightlife at Texas Tech University

Limited but Very Active Nightlife. Be Responsible!

There aren't many clubs, but most clubs are fun regardless if you're underage. There are at least 2 Latin Clubs, 2 main Clubs, 1 Western Club, 2 Gay Clubs, and many, many bars. Don't bother trying to get in for a fake I.D...you'll get busted in most places. Ask around for which bars will bust you for sure (one is Bar P.M.). The weekend starts on Wednesday. The club nights are mainly on Thursdays.

I would say there are a lot of parties. This ranges from the small house party, house-party hopping, big house parties, frat parties, and spur-of-the-moment parties. I want to say we are a party school, but I can't say for sure - I don't have time to party. Tailgating is big here since we have a nationally known football team.

Transportation is so-so. Most of the clubs are located near one another so you can walk. Getting home is different. While you can call for a free, safe ride sponsored by Tech (they won't know if you're underage or ask. The drivers' main task is to get you back on campus safely), sometimes the wait on the phone or for the ride is a long one. By the way, TEXAS TECH STUDENTS SUCK AT DRIVING. Don't go partying or clubbing in winter. Most people here have trucks and don't know how to drive them, especially in bad weather.

Get a D.D. that you REALLY trust. I had a D.D. once that had one beer & we got into an accident Halloween night with another party that was drunk.

The TTU student body as a whole drinks and drives a lot. Be on your guard. Always have a plan B.

Greek Life

I am not involved in any of the Greek life at Texas Tech, however, I have friends who are. They seem to all like the groups they are in and have made plenty of friends. However, in my opinion, a lot of girls change their views and personalities once in a sorority, but I believe that is for any university.

There is always open parking spots in satellite lot but you have to ride a bus to get the the school. This will cause you to leave your house about 30 minutes early. The good thing is satellite parking is only $40 opposed to the parking on campus which is about $140.

Texas Tech University Campus

The facilities at Texas Tech University are good. The Recreation facility allows for students to participate in many different free work out classes, climb a rock wall, play basketball, volleyball, racquet ball, swim laps, water polo, water volleyball, float in the lazy river, diving boards, and even water slides. All of the classrooms are currently being updated and the ones that have been renovated are very modern and classy rooms. The student union building is absolutely beautiful and has a Barns &Nobel and Starbucks inside of it, as well as tons of different dining options. The over all upkeep of the campus is always in pristine condition and appeals to people from all over.

Huge Greek Life

At Texas Tech, greek like is huge. The only downfall that i can see is how students are not able to live at their lodge. There are some stereotypes at Tech regarding greek life from non greek members, but i feel as if sorority and fraternity members dominate the student population. The first question i was asked while at NSO (new student orientation) was which fraternity i was looking at joining.

The guys at Tech are very handsome & have that West Texas charm that you can't find at any other big D1 school. Many of them come from small towns & have a bit of a twang which most people find delightful.
