All of the classes I have taken have been related to my major. AI has really helped by loading the classes geared toward my major and only "sprinkling" in the general education classes. This helps to keep my interest and focus on my major. I have taken classes that I didn't think would be related to my major but after being in the class I can relate it to Graphic Design.

There is a wide range of students at AI. There are recent high school graduates as well as older students such as retired military, professionals with full-time jobs and families. They also come from different ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.

The networks at AI are constantly down and the resources are no more than that of what you have at home. The only reason I would use the computers at school would be for adobe software

The facilities on campus are non existent, we have a pretty good library for resources related to art but that's about it. Computer labs for daily class or after class work are another exception.

Art Institute...My Outlook – My school was okay. Nothing to brag over though because i feel as though the knowledge i obtained while at the art institute,i could have recieved elsewhere. However i did meet a great amount of wonderful people that i dont think i could have met anywhere else.

Absolutely WONDERFUL – I am a transfer student, and although the process of transferring itself were difficult, all of my credits transferred. And when I had a question about a non credit class that did not transfer over, the dean handled it for me right away. Trusting my word that the classes were identical just had different names and he fixed my degree audit right away

I am soon to be graduating, and the career center said they would be in touch, but I have yet to hear from them. The staff is always encouraging us to go talk to them about future job openings and what not but I thought the center would be more upfront about helping the students out.

The teachers here are knowledgeable, however sometimes the information is not always presented clearly. Or there are gaps in the information we obtain.

Job Prospects Are Saturated – Charleston is full of Graphic Designers. This creates a saturated market, that can be difficult to breach into. The school attempts a easing this, and seems to be a fairly competent job. Sometimes, however, the students are not marketed as strongly as they might be capable of.

This school is a great resource for networking! The teachers care for the students and making a relationship that will last after the student leaves school. They want to see us succeed and look for opportunities to help us in the future.

I like going to AI, but there are some things I would like to change. We don't have dorms, instead we have "school sponsored housing," which is apartments the school leases and we pay to live in. We have been moved MULTIPLE times, and the last few times, we were moved to substandard, "ghetto" places with children running around unattended and high crime, including shootings, and even having our school's shuttle van being stolen! Also, we have no cafeteria and no food plan (although we have a culinary program with a kitchen and a "lunch event" sometimes for local people), so that's more money out of my parents' pockets. On the other hand, I really enjoy my classes, and I am learning a lot about my major and how I can be successful in the field.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
I know a lot of students, my girlfriend included, who had to withdraw because they could not afford to continue going to AI of Charleston. My girlfriend received state scholarships after high school graduation, but she didn't find out till she got to AI that they would not accept them because AI-Charleston is considered "out of state" due to it being part of AI of Atlanta. I'm fortunate that my parents are helping me out, but she has no support from her parents. My parents have been pushing me to try for continuing scholarships, and the school has some scholarships available, but I don't feel confident in my being able to qualify for them.

Career Help – I like the fact that, even during my freshman year, I was made aware hr

The student body is pretty diverse. They come from all sorts of ethnic backgrounds and economic situations. Overall, students are accepted socially pretty well and seem to get along. We all seem to share a difficulty with the cost of tuition, books and supplies, and some people who came to school when I did have left because they could not afford to stay--this is one of the biggest challenges.

Learning Alot! I have learned a lot at this school. The workload is pretty heavy though considering all classes are 10 week quarter classes. But I always enjoy and apply what I learn in my classes. Although sometimes it seems like the school picks favorites when it comes to majors. The Culinary students are always treated better and have the best of everything while us photography students sometimes have to work with broken equipment.
College Senior 2012-06-19T14:05:40Z
Overall the experience is okay. Its not what they said it was going to be like. One teacher in specific almost made me want to drop out. They let the best teachers go and sometimes put the wrong teacher in charge of the wrong courses. The "cage", where students can rent out film and photography equipment, used to be okay but this past quarter it has been bad. You reserve things and then they have given them to someone else when you pick them up. During the weeks of finals I had stuff reserved and the person that was supposed to be working the cage left so there was no way to shoot for my finals since the cage manager is the only one with a key. Other than those few things i've been having a good experience at AI and I will hopefully continue on to get my degree.

Not Much Talk About Student Activities. All resources are good, but unless you check your email you will never know about anything going at the school. There is no advertisement for anything.

Computer Labs – The only computer labs are also classrooms so you have to wait until there is no class in session to use them, which in inconvenient. There is 2 buildings to the school. A photography/film building and another building for culinary, fashion, and everything else. There are only 2 labs with professional photo printers in the photography building and none in the other building. Sometimes the internet is very slow, and we just recently got student wi-fi at the photography building.

What Makes My School Unique – My school is not a traditional college, nor is it a tech. It is a vocational school. So this means we do all the work of a traditional 4 year school, but are treated as a tech school. When I say treated as a tech school I mean, we don't live on campus and there is no meal plan we are all fending for ourselves. I like this experience beacuse we are all adults and we can act like it.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
