The program is great but very difficult to get into and once you are in be prepared to work till 10:00pm almost every night when show are being done (according to a guy there he is there that late every night but one and on works on Saturdays and Sundays as well) I think last year they took only 18 students. You have to submit a pre-screening audition and then they tell you if you will be allowed to do a live audition. You need to be very good at dance, theatre and voice to get in). It is a wonderful school though but incredible pressure!!!
Hi! Im currently a second year dancer at Juilliard. Most of the things mentioned above are very true I just want to add a few things. The Drama division is statistically the hardest to get into because it receives the most applicants. BUT the reason for that is because, unlike in dance and music, there are no prerequisites and virtually no age limit. My class (the class of 2015) currently has students age ranged from 18 to 30. Also, this year they added an M.F.A. program swell so now they take 9 BFA and 9 MFA students per year. So yes, all in all it is very difficult to get into, but there is also plenty of time for you to hone your talent to a point where you feel comfortable enough to audition! Even if you want to get a BFA somewhere else and then go back and audition after college! It is a fantastic fantastic program and a great school! I couldn't be happier myself. Keep the dream alive!
It is a WONDERFUL school and you will become an amazing instrumentalist if you were to attend Juilliard, however, getting in is extremely difficult. Thousands apply and they only take maybe 10 of an instrument (I am a vocalist and they took only 1 of my voice type last year - 10 for all voice types - both boys and girls - someone said to me over 2,000 applied for voice alone). They do not take into account how long you have had private lessons because everyone who applies has been studying for years and taken private lessons and most have taken pre-college programs to get the leave needed to even get an audition. That being said it is always worth sending in a pre-screening application because you never know. Just don't be disappointed if you don't get in because it is such a long shot it does not mean that you are not wonderful. They accept only about 200-250 students over ALL the schools (dance, drama, music) each year, and last year we had students from 39 countries accepted which means you are competing against people from all over the world. Also know that once you get in the demands of the school are more than you can imagine - getting in is easy - staying in is hard!! (Stress and pressure being some of the main factors of staying.) Good luck where ever you go!
nothing at Julliard? Julliard is an art school.
I don't think you commented on the right college page...Juilliard specializes in music and drama, not anything you are looking for
New York is expensive but fascinating
