There are some off-campus dining locations that are within close proximity to campus, but most of the best off-campus dining places are in the Capital District. Whether they are close to campus or a little farther away, the off-campus restaurants are all very convenient to get to, and there is a wide variety of places to choose from. The value is outstanding in most off-campus restaurants, but the prices can vary anywhere from $8 per meal to $35 or higher. The nice thing about off-campus restaurants is that their menus add something different to student’s food choices, since the on-campus dining hall food can become repetitive.
The variety of restaurants in Troy and the surrounding region includes Asian, Chinese, Lebanese, Thai, Italian, and American-ized restaurants. There are not many restaurants that focus just on vegetarian, gluten-free, or kosher foods, but local restaurants usually include a few of these food options to satisfy customers. In fact, the availability of these food choices has been increasing and is being offered at more and more restaurants in the area, especially at little shops and small grocery stores. Perhaps in the future, Troy will get an all vegan or gluten-free restaurant.
