Towson has some outstanding professors, but every now and then, people encounter some less-intriguing ones. Professors are usually accommodating and accessible to students outside of class during scheduled office hours or even beyond those hours via e-mail. On one hand, students generally agree that the greatest aspect of academics at Towson are the small class sizes because that allows students to establish a relationship with their professors. However, Towson does have some professors that present their material in a dull manner and should be avoided at all costs. Unlike other universities, it is rare for a class to be taught by a graduate student or teaching assistant. Although there are many good, hands-on learning opportunities that provide interaction with the professors, Towson lacks the close relationships with the academic advisors that can be very beneficial to the students. Although a student is bound to come across some mind-numbing classes, they will also find many more encouraging and understanding professors that make up for it. Classes can be fascinating at Towson, depending on how interested you are in the topic and how far you are into your major.

I really think the type of teacher...
I really think the type of teacher depends on the type of classes you take. For example, a lot of my psychology teachers are really gregarious, energetic, and understanding. They seem like they are more willing to relate to a student compared to an art history professor or health professor (gen ed teachers). Currently, I am a junior, so most of the classes I am taking are required for my major. As a result, in my opinion, these are the most interesting classes. |

A key fact is that Towson is one of the top-10 most rated schools on ratemyprofessors.com, so be sure to check that site when scheduling, and you will be fine. Many advisors are also professors, and mine always seemed to be too busy for me. It is different for everyone. Another strategy to help you do well in Towson and encounter great teachers is to become friendly with your Orientation Leader that you meet on the first couple days of school. They are basically assistants to the advisors. Mine helped me schedule my classes. If it wasn’t for her, I would not have done well my freshman year. |

Most of the professors are just...
Most of the professors are just that—professional. Classes, for the most part, are formal, and the professors are well educated and have real-world experience. Once my gen eds were out of the way, I felt like all of my classes were interesting, because they are for my major (which I chose because I enjoy). |

Towson has some good professors and some that are not so great. The best thing about the academics in Towson is that I never just feel like a number, even though this is a public school. |

Professors are good, but the classes have often put me to sleep. The classes are small if that’s what you’re into. |
