Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

It is always enjoyable to be on a sports team at Towson, whether it is a varsity sports team, club, or intramural. Being involved on a team is a good way to meet people, and there is a great camaraderie among the students on all sports teams. Many students especially love playing intramurals because the teams are less competitive. Guys tend to adore the dance team, and girls enjoy going to lacrosse games to watch the guys. Some sporting events draw larger crowds than others, but, for the most part, people do attend the games, especially during Homecoming.

Although sports at Towson can be a great experience, the school strongly lacks school spirit. Homecoming is fun, and many students come to tailgate and then watch the game together. As for all the other games, many call for additional students to attend and for more student involvement. Since there is a lack of school spirit, many excellent teams are not recognized enough, either.

Towson Athletics

Although some students are school spirited Towson is not a huge athletically centered school. Our teams tend to under perform, and most people go to tail gate and skip the actual game.

We Have Sports Teams?

Sports aren't the biggest thing at Towson. Our football team pulled out a magic season this year but that's the only sport that we were able to brag about this year.

Ehh.. mutual feeling on sports

Many students come out to football games but mainly because tailgating is so fun. Our football team did well this year, and that had a lot of people eager to go to games. Our basketball team is complete garbage, but it's still nice to watch the guys, ha! No one really goes to the basket ball games. Other sports people seem to be big on is baseball and lacross.

School Spirit

It is clear that Towson lacks school spirit. Events such as Spirit Day, Greek Week, and Homecoming are held, but more can still be done to promote spirit. Like many other schools, Towson is most spirited around Homecoming, but many students still end up partying in the parking lot and missing the game. With good teams and great relationships among teammates, school spirit should be strengthened.

Getting Tickets

Tickets can be purchased for some events online at www.towsontigers.com. For the events that cannot be purchased online, they can be purchased by calling (410) 704-2244, or in person at the ticket office on the first floor of the University Union.

Best Place to Take a Walk

There are not really any walking trails on or around Towson’s campus, but Hamden, Inner Harbor, and Federal Hill are great areas to walk around, people watch, and window shop. If you’re looking to get in touch with nature, the NCR Trail is only a few miles from campus, as is the Loch Raven Reservoir, both of which offer great hiking, walking, and biking trails.

Did You Know?

The Towson University Dance Team members were named national champions by the National Cheerleaders Association and the  National Dance Association eight times in the past few years.
