College Prowler Take

The area of Towson has it all. It is the ideal college town with everything to offer, aside from school spirit—it is obvious that there is a lack thereof of that. Students love the fact that Towson has a selection of many bars, restaurants, a great mall, movie theaters, and a bookstore, all within walking distance of the University. The local community is, for the most part, friendly toward the students, but the interaction among students and locals is not that frequent. Another great aspect of Towson’s location is that it is not in the busy city of Baltimore but right outside of it, which is what students find most convenient. There is a vast variety of places to go to within 10 minutes of the school, including downtown Baltimore or Fells Point, which is most popular on Halloween.

Although there are many students from multiple schools that surround Towson and Baltimore, the schools do not interact that often. Furthermore, even with the presence of many local bars closer to campus, many students still prefer the downtown Baltimore bars instead.

I love the area I am in, and that is why I chose to come to Towson. I love the more city-type area. There are always places to go and so many people wherever you go. Other schools around are Goucher, Loyola, Notre Dame, and Johns Hopkins. They are okay schools, but I find I get along better with the kids from Towson. We are all a lot more alike than the students at the other schools.

Everyone, including faculty and students, at Towson seems to be pretty friendly. However, most people stay within their ‘circle’ (Greeks, sports, SGA, and so on). Furthermore, they do not include other universities (even though we are surrounded by five or six college campuses).

Towson is pretty metropolitan. You have the population and atmosphere of a city. TU is surrounded by other universities—Goucher College, Johns Hopkins University, Loyola, UMBC, Baltimore International College, Maryland Institute of Art, and College Park is 45 minutes away. Baltimore has an amazing downtown nightlife, the Inner Harbor and Fells Point, shopping in Towson with Columbia, Washington DC, and Northern Virginia 30 to 40 minutes away, and lots of local novelties.
