So Much Diversity
A+
Most people think of diversity as black and white. I'm actually a transfer student, and I can tell you that diversity is so much more. I originally went to Elon University, where everyone looked, talked, acted, and dressed exactly the same. At Towson, there is literally any type of person you're looking for. From the nerds in the union to the sorority girls in P-Tux and everything in between.

Security is everywhere
A+
There is a ton of police everywhere. The University is in between two of the best hospitals in Baltimore so in case of any emergency, help is close. There is a police station on campus, and plenty of dorm security. Every night at 11 a guard takes the over night shift, but to get into any building you need a One card and proof of residency, which is the assigned sticker to your building. Unfortunately you sometimes catch the guards asleep-but there isn't much action going on anyway.

Towson is ridiculously windy all the time. In the summer it's not bad, but in the winter you need a hat and a scarf. |

Drugs are not noticeable on campus at first glance. If someone attends a certain party, drugs—mostly marijuana—will most likely be there.

The drug scene is not too big except for marijuana use. That and drinking dominate the social scene and can be noticeable.

There are enough kids who do drugs...
There are enough kids who do drugs that you will probably encounter some at one point, but as long as you avoid hanging out with the wrong people or crowds, then you will be fine. People who traffic drugs usually get caught, and people who are busy doing the drugs usually are staying in their own space.

Towson was a safety school for me...
Towson was a safety school for me when applying to colleges. I never thought that this would be my last option, and it was. I was not thrilled about coming and did not have any great expectations, but it turned out to be more than I could have imagined. I have encountered some of the nicest people, the most caring professors, and in a great working atmosphere. I would never, ever, want to go anywhere else. |

To me, Greek life is great in Towson. You might feel pressured to decide as soon as the first week what sorority or fraternity you belong to because rush begins around the second to the third week of school. That is a very short time to decide. You can always wait till spring semester because Towson has rush both semesters. |

You are not allowed to have a car...
You are not allowed to have a car freshman year. Many freshmen still bring their car, anyways, and park on the main street next to the dorm that they belong to. You can get many daily passes from the school for the times you cannot find parking on the street, which is kind of rare, unless you return with your car at certain hours. Parking gets extremely rough around 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., so you will have to come a little bit early if you choose to drive to class. On days that it snows, I wish you the best of luck because there is no parking anywhere! The streets are covered in snow, and cars are either stuck or can’t park in certain locations. Many move their vehicles into the garages, and then the garages are full. |

Parking is horrible. Towson has too many students with cars but not enough spots. Be ready to leave for classes very early. |

A key fact is that Towson is one of the top-10 most rated schools on ratemyprofessors.com, so be sure to check that site when scheduling, and you will be fine. Many advisors are also professors, and mine always seemed to be too busy for me. It is different for everyone. Another strategy to help you do well in Towson and encounter great teachers is to become friendly with your Orientation Leader that you meet on the first couple days of school. They are basically assistants to the advisors. Mine helped me schedule my classes. If it wasn’t for her, I would not have done well my freshman year. |

I really think the type of teacher...
I really think the type of teacher depends on the type of classes you take. For example, a lot of my psychology teachers are really gregarious, energetic, and understanding. They seem like they are more willing to relate to a student compared to an art history professor or health professor (gen ed teachers). Currently, I am a junior, so most of the classes I am taking are required for my major. As a result, in my opinion, these are the most interesting classes. |

Towson has some good professors...
Towson has some good professors and some that are not so great. The best thing about the academics in Towson is that I never just feel like a number, even though this is a public school. |

Most of the professors are just...
Most of the professors are just that—professional. Classes, for the most part, are formal, and the professors are well educated and have real-world experience. Once my gen eds were out of the way, I felt like all of my classes were interesting, because they are for my major (which I chose because I enjoy). |

Security on campus is great. You need to sign in to all dorms and must show proper ID to do so. The campus is open, so there is not a security check when you first enter, but otherwise, it is very secure. |

There are a good amount of places to dorm around campus, the best being the Towers (A, B, C, D). They have air-conditioning and whatnot. The bad places are Newell, Residence Towers, and Prettyman. They don’t have air-conditioning and are small and have community bathrooms. |

I’d say most people move off after freshman year, and definitely by junior year only a handful of upperclassmen still reside on campus. |

It is convenient and reasonable if you find the right place. The Village is overpriced and really not worth it. There are many other great places, such as Kenilworth or the Colony that you can find housing cheaper than living on campus. |

I think that the all-around greatest place to live is in the Colony. It is kind of like moving up to older, more mature dorms. You’re not living the dorm life, but the fun is all around. I would say that the more home-style place to live is Kenilworth and the place next door to it. |

Towson is basically a big bar...
Towson is basically a big bar school. Although there are some parties at off-campus apartments, such as the Colony, every now and then, Towson is huge about its bars. Getting a fake ID is practically crucial for a good experience. The ID does not have to be good, because they are extremely lenient. There is basically something happening just about every night at Towson, either uptown or downtown. |
