College Prowler Take

As it is located in one of the more dangerous counties in America, Towson University’s security system makes every effort to ensure safety on campus. Crime is not a primary concern for TU students, but the TU police department still keep students well informed, unlike some other schools that attempt to keep crime discrete. They post alerts after every crime and host an orientation program that informs students of ways to remain safe on campus. Another great safety feature is that there are 24-hour emergency telephones and lit sidewalks all over campus.

To a large extent, the TU police work hard and are always seen around the dorms. In addition, students are ensured that they are secure when entering their dorms. One of the main complaints about security is that students are often overwhelmed by the process they must go through when entering their dorms, as well. Some students also feel that security should be seen more around campus, rather than just situating themselves near the dorms.

Security on campus is great. You need to sign in to all dorms and must show proper ID to do so. The campus is open, so there is not a security check when you first enter, but otherwise, it is very secure.

The campus is safe; there is no crime, really. Or at least, I don’t hear of it going on. We have lots of security, and sometimes, I feel it is a little overwhelming.

Students are recommended to attend a workshop in the first week of school. Security explains ways to remain safe and hands out numbers for the students to call in case they do not feel safe and want someone to walk them back to their room from anywhere on campus.
