Facts

Slang

  • P-Tux - Patuxent
  • The Beach - Patch of grass near central area of campus
  • VIPs - Paws

Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School

  • Before a cab takes you where you do not want to go, know that there is a difference between Power Plant and Power Plant Live!. Power Plant Live! is where the popular bars are.
  • If you hear the word VIP’s, it refers to the same place as Paws.
  • The Patuxent is the greatest place to eat on campus. For those who did not get this book, they probably will not know about it ‘til a month into school and will be eating bad Towson food.
  • The ratio of guys to girls.
  • The University Union is the main student center on campus.
  • Towson is one of the only schools where you can get beer delivered to your door at 3 a.m. if you are 21 or older.
  • Try to call Jimmy’s a half hour in advance on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
  • What is known as “the beach” is actually just a patch of grass where a lot of students hang out in between classes. It is located by Stephens Hall.

Tips to Succeed

  • Be sure to check out www.ratemyprofessors.com when scheduling for classes. This Web site will help you find the best professors! Towson has been one of the most rated schools for years.
  • Become familiar with the Towson Web site, as it will provide you with tons of insight regarding the inner workings of the university. You’ll be able to find out about the dining halls, the library, housing, athletics, and clubs.

Traditions

  • Tiger Fest - Tiger Fest is a huge tradition in Towson. It is the annual spring festival that is open to the campus community. The greatest thing about Tiger Fest is that it gathers all of the students together with games, novelties, a beer garden, food vendors, and concerts. It is held on Burdick field on the first Saturday of May

School Spirit

It is clear that Towson lacks school spirit. Events such as Spirit Day, Greek Week, and Homecoming are held, but more can still be done to promote spirit. Like many other schools, Towson is most spirited around Homecoming, but many students still end up partying in the parking lot and missing the game. With good teams and great relationships among teammates, school spirit should be strengthened.
