College Prowler Take
Students who are resident assistants (RAs) are allowed to write other students up for drinking and will sometimes have little power trips, but the Campus Safety officers are, for the most part, pretty reasonable.
The Trinity administration is reasonable in understanding that it is better that students drink in the sheltered atmosphere of Trinity, with friends, a bed, and even EMT-trained students close by, than for them to drive to an unsafe bar in the middle of the city, drink too much (as most freshmen tend to do) and then, to cap off the night, drive (swerve) home. Students are generally warned or written up before any serious penalties are imposed, and campus police tend to simply confiscate a student’s alcohol instead of pursuing disciplinary action.

The recent school presidents have all had different attitudes towards the drinking that goes on at Trinity. For the most part, the drinking is tolerated in moderation, which is as it should be. College students are going to drink, and it is better that they stay on campus to do it, rather than drive into unsafe areas of Hartford and then try to drive home. |

Campus policy on drinking has been...
Campus policy on drinking has been more strictly enforced recently, since Trinity has been gaining a reputation as a party school. Alcohol is taboo in freshmen dorms, regardless of the age of the occupant. |

Campus police are strict with...
Campus police are strict with freshmen and if one isn’t careful, it is easy to get in trouble for underage drinking. Although underage drinking is not tolerated by the administration, the main focus is on maintaining an alcohol-free environment in the freshman dorms. If a student becomes sick from drinking or drugs, Trinity offers the student-run Trinity College Emergency Rescue Team (TCERT). To encourage students to take advantage of TCERT, students using this service are guaranteed that they will not get in trouble for any illegal actions. |

Most campus safety officers will...
Most campus safety officers will tell a student to dump out their beer or to throw away their cup rather than write them up and pass their name along to the Dean. As long as students are partying in a fairly reasonable manner, the Campus Safety officers will leave them be. It seems as though their objective is more to protect students from intruders and bad situations, than it is to become the alcohol police. |

The inaccessibility of Hartford to...
The inaccessibility of Hartford to students has been blamed for students’ decisions to drink, but this has not convinced all administrators. All alcohol and drug paraphernalia is confiscated when found, and the Campus Safety lock-up is supposed to contain a plethora of bongs and other instruments with which to smoke pot. |
