Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Greek life is present at Trinity, but it definitely does not dominate the social scene. Kappa Kappa Gamma is the only sorority that is nationally recognized. Ivy, one of the other sororities, was previously Tri Delta. Psi Upsilon and Alpha Delta are the two nationally-recognized fraternities, and Saint Anthony’s Hall, better known as the Hall, is a fraternity with both male and female members. Cleo is an all-inclusive literary society that provides an alternative social scene from the mainstream. In general, the sorority parties are held off campus and closed to the public, while the fraternities are better known for the publicly open Late Night.

As for Greek life at Trinity, take advantage of it—you will find yourself with some great friends and fun parties. If you choose to ignore it, you will still have plenty to do, as well. Greek life is pretty visible here, but not in a bad way. If you choose to partake in it, that is fine, and if you chose not to, well, that is fine, too. Most times, the sororities do not throw parties open to the public, but the fraternities all certainly do, and there is a specific fraternity party for every different personality type. Just don’t expect the beer to be of high quality . . . .

Fratty

Huge part of the school atmosphere, whether or not you are involved. There is the occasional fun night out, but for the most part the scene gets old after a while. A couple are exclusive, and have had issues with kids not being welcome and even demeaned. The school needs to encourage a different kind of community.

Center of Social Life on Weekends

The people who "go out" on the weekends go to the frats, they can be a little exclusive, but they are fun. And the members are cool people.

Did You Know?
  • To be recognized by Trinity's administration, all Greek letter organizations must be coed. This sometimes means that sororities and fraternities have combined (in name only) to appease to the rules. Also, a frat may allow in one girl just to keep with Trinity policy. When this rule was first implemented, many organizations were forced into a catch-22—by not becoming coed, they broke Trinity rules and were, therefore, forced off campus by administration. And by becoming coed, they lost their national charter.
  • The football house at Trinity also frequently throws raging house parties.
  • Only upperclassmen are eligible to be in Greek organizations at Trinity, and hazing rituals are against school policy.
  • Combined, Psi U and Kappa Kappa Gamma are recognized by Trinity's administration as a society called the "Columns." Kappa is the only nationally recognized sorority at Trin. Psi U is one of only two nationally recognized fraternities, the other being AD. Alpha Delta Pi and the Ivy Society are recognized by Trinity as the "Fire Society."
