Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Trin students care about their looks. Bright colors are everywhere, and most every guy and girl on campus owns a pink polo shirt. The “dress code” is very New England and preppy. That said, if you don’t enjoy wearing ribbons in your hair or pearl earrings to the gym, nobody will really care all that much. The guys and girls are, to use an overused but appropriate word, pretty nice. You will be able to find a social group where you feel that you belong. Hookups are, in general, more common than relationships. Trinity has a reputation as a party school, and it is not undeserved.

If the grades below were based on outward appearence alone, Trin students might have received an “A” for both genders. However, the guys and girls both lose points for lack of diversity, a tendency to lean toward cliquishness, and even for some ego issues.

Hot

What is typically assumed to be attractive is very apparent at Trinity, and therefore, there are a very large percentage of girls that are hot, gorgeous, attractive, etc. This is not to say that "uglier" students are non-existent, but the number of good looking girls far outweighs the "less visually pleasing" ones. It is definitely rewarding to see Trinity's ladies day after day. Some of them have stuck up and/or revolting personalities, but many of the ladies are attractive and pleasant. I have heard enough to assume that the looks for guys are similar, but I can't personally comment on that since I only have a physical attraction to the women. One thing I can say about my fellow sex is that too many of the guys here are obnoxious and self-centered. There are definitely nice and appropriate guys too, but the rude ones are all too apparent and can give a bad representation of the guys.

Guys, Girls, Looks and Their Clothes

Basically, guys and girls here are extremely attractive. Girls care a lot about how they dress and what they look like--same with guys. It is a very preppy campus though, but don't feel like you have to give in to the prepiness. I dress with both preppy and non preppy styles. If you're confident about your style, people will respect you and not tease. But, relationships are uncommon here--especially freshman year. Usually, people tend to settle down after their freshman year. It's sad, but most people here date for connections. The common thread in most relationships is that the guy is a fraternity brother. The place is mostly hook up city, and you can't go searching for a relationship. But girls, if you make the guy work, most likely it will turn into something more than a hook up.

Diversity Lurks Beneath

There is a stereotype of rather good-looking people from Fairfield County; but it has never been my experience that the stereotype is the only truth. If you spend any amount of time, you will quite easily find people who don't necessarily participate in the dominant social life (nor look like they came from Greenwich). It is true, however, that Trinity does not have the best dating-culture.

What kinds of relationships have you had since coming to school?

How would you rate the social scene on campus?

Facts

Social Scene

On the weekends, Trinity students rarely leave campus. There are always loads of parties on campus, whether sponsored by the school or by a social or cultural club. There are also many dorm room and frat parties (22 percent of girls and 27 percent of men join a Greek Organization while at Trinity). There are several bars in Hartford, such as the Brickyard, Bourbon Street, the Pig's Eye and the Tap, but usually the campus parties are more fun. There is heavy drinking at many of the parties, but it isn't necessary to drink a lot to have fun. The Underground Coffee House has live music and open-mic nights, and the Bistro also has weekly live music and comedy shows.

Hookups or Relationships?

There are more random hookup than serious relationships, although it really depends on what an individual student is looking for.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

Many classes focus heavily on student discussion, and so it is relatively easy to get to know the people you seen three times a week in the small classrooms. While many school-sponsored parties at the social center don't attract a huge crowd, some do, and the frat gatherings are usually pretty packed. The quad in the spring is always filled with sun-bathers and Frisbee-tossers.
