College Prowler Take
Everyone seems to experience a similarly hard freshman year; Trinity is not perfect. Once you accept that, you can begin settling down, grow comfortable, and view this little oasis in the middle of Hartford as a home for the next four years. Quite a few Trinity students can’t wait for the beginning of September just to get back to school. Another experience everyone else seems to have in common at Trinity is a fierce loyalty to their alma mater—the love for the Bantam is only one example. Well, now that you’re hip to all the facts and opinions about Trinity College, you without a doubt have a head start on all the other incoming freshmen. Whether you decide to spend the next four years of your life at Trinity or choose another college, learn to accept the college or university that you selected. Don’t be quick to give up or transfer. If half of the students who felt frustrated initially chose to leave Trinity, they never would have discovered what a great place it really is.

My first year at Trinity was a big adjustment. Coming from a public high school and being submerged in a crowd of boarding school graduates, I was overwhelmed with the preppy clothes, the drugs, and the elitist attitudes. I definitely had thoughts of transferring. But during my second year I found a group of students I automatically clicked with. Being such a small school, Trinity is all about groups and cliques and finding your own niche. Once that happens, the rest just falls into place. My academic experience so far has been intense and challenging, while my social life blurs into one big tantilizing fiasco. Although it’s nice to take a break from campus every so often, either for Thanksgiving, spring break, or the end of the semester, I always look forward to returning to Camp Trin Trin. |

My parents wish I were closer to home, but I’ll fight to stay at Trinity. It’s the right place for me, and I’ve found a way to make it my home. |

I’d say I like Trinity because the students here work hard and play hard . . . most Trin students that you ask would tell you the same. |

I had a rocky start freshman year, and I seriously considered transferring, but I gave it one more chance and it worked out for me. I found a group of friends with whom I was very compatible, and we have all developed close ties with one another. I have experimented with several majors, and I have found the faculty supportive and helpful as I explored my intellectual interests. Although Trinity is not a utopia by any means, I am thankful that I did not go anywhere else. |
