Access to Restaurants, Bars and Stores

Due to safety issues in the area surrounding campus, there are limited attractions, restaurants that students can access. If you have a car West Hartford is 15 minutes away, however, and has great stores, bars and restaurants.

Not the Worst, but Bad

The drug scene here isn't as bad as it might be in other schools. However, there is no doubt that you'll see plenty of kids smokin' a blunt with their bros each and every night.

Drinking on-campus is much more blatant, since the college even funds some parties. Many people here drink and feel that it is a great way to socialize.

Despite all this, there is very little peer pressure to either drink or smoke. People respect your views on substance usage, and that makes fitting in slightly less awkward.

As for the policy enforcement, there is virtually none. Once in a while, the Campus Safety department may speak to a student in a harsh manner, empty out the alcohol bottle in a student's hand, or something like that. These usually always take the form of warnings though. There is no real serious repercussion that I've seen which deal with substance usage.
