College Prowler Take

If we were speaking in terms of waist size, San Antonio would be one of the biggest cities in the nation. This is due, in part, to the abundance of great food everywhere in the city. It would be easy to assume that certain types of food would be difficult to find in a largely Hispanic city, and while Tex-Mex does tend to be the house specialty, there are very good restaurants that cater to every taste. Since Trinity is located close to downtown and the Alamo Heights area, it is within a short drive of some delicious dining.

Because students take on so many responsibilities when it comes to class work and extracurricular activities, oftentimes, they want to find a favorite restaurant and stick with it. Because of this, certain restaurant names are often heard on campus such as EZ’s, Chris Madrid’s, or Main Street Pizza. These places serve good food at good prices. But with a little bit more exploration, you can find different places to eat that serve unique dishes for the same price. Twin Sister’s is a vegetarian’s dream, and the nearby Sorrento Ristorante has some of the most authentic Italian food in San Antonio. Getting meals off campus is wonderful for breaking up the Mabee monotony. Because there are so many great places to eat, students should take the time to find new food, and learn more about the city at the same time, whenever they can.

There are some really good places to eat around Trinity that are dirt cheap. My favorite place is Mainstreet Pizza. It's cheap, fast, delicious, and Trinity students get discounts.

San Antonio is one of the most amazing cities in the world for restaurants. If you take the highway, its only five minutes to the Riverwalk, which is always fun to take friends from out of town or go on a date. Surrounding Trinity are some great local restaurants on Broadway and Main Street as well. Don't be afraid to try those little hole-in-the-wall restaurants, because those usually have really awesome food.

There are two types of restaurants- Mexican food and non-Mexican food. Breakfast tacos are a favorite. There is a small Mexican food restaurant close to campus called Taco Taco that was voted best Tacos in America by the Food Network. There is a lot of good cheap Mexican food close around.

San Antonio is known for its restaurants, so eating off campus is done as often as possible. Mexican food predominates, but there are other ethnicities of food as well, in addition to chain restaurants. Alamo Café, La Fogata, and Rio Rio are great Mexican restaurants. For sushi/Japanese food, Koi Kawa and the Golden Wok can’t be beat. Rudy’s Bar-B-Q is famous throughout the greater San Antonio/Hill Country/Austin area.

San Antonio has great restaurants, mostly because it is a tourist city. Some of my personal favorites are Piatti located in the Quarry market (this is Italian), and EZ’s if you want something low budget.
