At Truman, it’s pretty much a matter of getting caught. If you are smart enough not to pass out on the sidewalk or throw empty beer cans into the dorm hallways, then you won’t get a citation. There are always horror stories about police doing random searches of campus residences, but that seems to be a Truman urban legend. However, DPS officers definitely search rooms over Christmas break, and even a poster containing drug- or alcohol-related content can get you cited, so be sure to take it home. Punishments often include monetary reimbursement, community service, and letters of apology to your parents and school officials. Also be warned that a new Missouri law enables officers to haul you in for a minor in possession charge simply if you look wasted—no Smirnoff necessary.

Don’t try to park without the proper decal in the correct corner of your back window, or you will get a pretty hefty fine. Since there’s not much crime in sleepy Kirksville, officers always do their scheduled parking lot rounds. Anything more than five minutes or so in an incorrect parking spot or with an improper decal is sure to result in a $10 bill, which seems to be the standard ticket issued by officers.

Everyone Knows

Most everyone knows when there's a party, even the professors. I, personally don't care, but if you interact with people, you'll know about it all. Just don't drink or do drugs on campus, you should be safe, but beware the police as always.

No Alcohol Policy, but...

There is a no alcohol policy, but residents often come in drunk from local parties.

Little Strictness

They give us so much freedom here at Truman State. I can't really think of an instance where someone isn't being treated like an adult.
