Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Kirksville has a powerful reputation for meth, as does the entire state of Missouri, which has the highest rate of meth lab activity in the United States. Yet, despite the culture that rages outside of the University, the campus is pretty much drug-free. There are a couple of fraternities inextricably linked with marijuana and some mildly harder drugs, but you won’t find any visible drug use unless you go looking. There have been no rumors of ecstasy or GHB use among students.

On the other hand, almost everyone knows someone who has been busted for pot, usually because that person was dumb enough to try to smoke it in a residence hall. Just like with alcohol use, if you are smart enough to control your impulses, you won’t get caught. Punishment can be harsh if you hear a DPS officer knock on your door. Students at Truman are definitely not pressured to use drugs. In fact, well-meaning friends are more often encouraging their peers to stop drinking and smoking.

Don't Do It in the Dorms.

You'll get caught. I promise. Save your illegal activities for when you're off campus.

Drugs Are a Rarity

Drugs are a rarity. i would say a very small percentage of the student population actually does any form of drug. There are a few members of Greek life that seem to have become labelled as 'druggie' frats but other than that drug use is remarkably small. Alcohol, on the other hand, is easy to get and there is almost always a few parties going on somewhere.

Safety and Support

Drinking and drug usage each have large scenes for such a small town. Since it is small there tends to be an easier atmosphere to meet really great people in a nights adventure and for those who hit it to hard people are very willing to help and make sure that everyone remains safe.
