Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Kirksville has its share of advantages, and a safe campus atmosphere is definitely one of them. In this case, fewer people seems to equal fewer crimes. The most common offenses among students are—you guessed it—alcohol possession or consumption. But since nearly all the bars and parties are within easy walking distance, no one gets behind the wheel drunk. It’s a familiar sight to see a group of glammed-out individuals stumbling and giggling across campus around 2 a.m. Even for girls, walking through campus late at night never brings a sense of fear or distrust. According to the DPS, the blue emergency lights that dot the campus have yet to be used, except in pranks, but frequent testing shows an average response time of less than three minutes.

The dorms are locked after 10:30 p.m., and Truman recently equipped the night monitors with ID-swiping machines to make the process a little more official. Theft seems to be uncommon as well. The elaborate ruses some students use to prop room doors open—magnets, duct tape, even batteries—don’t seem to increase the chance of laptops and televisions being taken.

Perfectly Safe

Besides being in a low crime rate area and a small town, Truman has a diligent campus security system. I feel very safe on campus.

I've Never Had Any Problems

I feel completely safe walking across campus at any time of day/night. There are your occasional petty crimes like theft, but never really anything major. The biggest thing is minors getting drunk and getting MIPs.
