| Advice on Finding a Job/Internship | |
Whether you’re looking for a job or a summer internship, apply early and everywhere. Start a Google search and go from there. Remember that you can always turn a position down (gracefully) if you find something better, so follow up on every lead. Pay attention to your professors, and if you’re up against a brick wall, ask them for help—they usually have contacts in your field.
It’s important to establish a relationship with the Career Center staff members early. Make an appointment as a freshman and bring questions, even if you’re not looking for a specific job or academic guidance. The more face time you have with them, the more vested in your cause they’ll be when it’s time to find a job. Attend the Career Expo each semester, and meet with prospective employers, even if you’re not looking for something in particular. Hand out your resume and ask what positions would be open for someone in your field. The Expo is most helpful for business, nursing, and computer science majors.
