Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Kirksville just doesn’t have a nightlife. Townspeople close up shop by 10 p.m., and students are left to find their own entertainment. Check out the liquor section at Wal-Mart on a weekend sometime after 10 p.m. and you’ll understand. Since there isn’t much else to do in Kirksville besides throw alcohol-dependent bashes, there never seems to be a shortage of parties. There is no pressure to drink, however, especially if you live in the dorms. Many people have a great time listening to music, playing games, and watching movies with friends.

The Dukum Inn is the one bar students frequent most often, with its budget-friendly specials, such as Drinkin’ with Lincoln—$5 all-you-can-drink—and musical events. Best of all, it’s within walking distance to campus, so there is no threat of drunks getting behind the wheel.

Top Notch Small Town Night Life

The town has a few dependable bars where there will always be people you know but it really exceeds in what the town provides for students of all ages. Besides the safe yet extremely wild greek scene there is always an exciting venue or community center that provides live music, raves, poetry slams , or whatever the seem to be interested in. Besides that there is a beautiful country scene where barn fire parties and out in the country blues festivals make Kirksville quite exceptional.

It's a Small Town.

There is not much to do unless you can to the bars. If you want to go out, join a frat.

Kirksville Fails

It sure is nice to walk everywhere and not spend money on gas, but generally Truman students spend too much time studying to go out in the first place, and even if they did, this town is so small it really doesn't matter.

Organization Parties

Most active organizations on campus throw their own events, but these are rarely typical parties. There are notable exceptions, including the departmental frats, campus media groups, honor fraternities, and service organizations. Mostly these are private gatherings, but knowing someone will get you in just about everywhere.

What to Do if You're Not 21What's This?

The same thing as if you are 21. People chill at fraternities and house parties, where age is no object. Some just dance and have a good time, some sip a beer or two, and some get plastered. There are also plenty of University-sponsored events held on campus.
