Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Public transportation and Kirksville don’t really belong in the same sentence. There is no reliable bus or tram service here that doesn’t require a premeditated reservation. While this might be a major drawback in a larger city, most students don’t feel it’s really an issue here. You can get anywhere you need to go with a short car ride or a good pair of tennis shoes. Even Wal-Mart, the furthest of the common student destinations, is only a two-mile walk.

Many students bring a car to campus—although certainly not all—and chances are great there’s someone on your floor heading to Hy-Vee or willing to trust you with their keys for an hour or two. Downtown Kirksville, home to boutiques, gourmet food stores, and the one popular student bar, is less than a half-mile walk. Getting to and from town is a little more difficult, but it has become easier in recent years thanks to upgrades to Highway 63, which now makes Kirksville accessible by a pretty smooth four-lane road. The airport is seldom used by Truman students and is even less popular after an ill-fated flight crashed a short distance from the runway in 2004, killing 13. However, the planes are generally safe and new, but flights are pretty expensive.

Seriously, Kirksville is small enough that there is hardly any need for transportation. Freshmen are allowed to have cars so its never hard to find someone to drive to on a Walmart run.

Short Walk to Class

The campus is small, so busses to class are not necessary. At most its a 12 minute walk to class and that is the farthest building away.

No Off-Campus Transportation

I haven't seen any off-campus transportation, but that's largely because it's not needed. Many of the students who live off campus are within a 15-20 minute walking distance to their classes, and there's plenty of available parking spots throughout the day to park for commuters.
