Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

One thing’s for sure: There isn’t any social pressure to do drugs at Tufts. As a matter of fact, students here could very well go their entire college career without seeing anything more than alcohol and cigarettes. However, this isn’t to say that Tufts University is a modern-day Pleasantville, either. Generally, where there is smoking and drinking, marijuana isn’t far away. Tthere are also a few rich fraternity boys here and there that are known for their coke habits.

Overall, though, there aren’t a lot of chain smokers or coke users on campus, though alcohol and marijuana are somewhat prevalent. The average Tufts student will probably drink on weekends and smoke from time to time, but as for the drug scene, there is virtually nothing to worry about. There’s no need to use anything to fit in. In fact, the crowds that use illegal substances are mostly isolated from the rest of the student body.

Existent but Not in Your Face

You will find alcohol and drugs present at Tufts, especially on the weekends, but not to a great extent. There are students who like to smoke out near the dorms and/or on the library roof, but TUPD will write you up if you're highly conspicuous. I would not say that there is a marked "drug culture" at Tufts but just like at any college, there are people who frequent that scene.

Do Whatever You Want

Alot of people smoke, alot of people drink, and alot of people do neither. There's no real pressure to take part in alcohol or weed consumption, but if you want to you certainly have the option. I haven't seen any "harcore drug" use myself, but I've heard it's out there.

It's pretty hard to get caught smoking or drinking. TUPD doesn't seem to actively pursue users with much effort. But if your really obvious about it, you will get in trouble.

Drug Scene

A lot of students smoke marijuana. Some on a daily basis, some just on weekends, some every once and a while. There's also a lot of students who refrain. There's absolutely no pressure to participate, but if you want it, it's very easy to come by. You also have to try to get caught with weed.
