Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

As far as local options go, there are a lot of very nice bars close to Tufts—particularly in Davis Square. If you really want to dance, though, you’ll probably have to head down to Lansdowne Street in Boston. The bars and clubs there, in the broadest sense, are exclusive but expensive. Given the huge number of organization parties, house parties, and fraternity events right around the University, Tufts students don’t have to leave the campus area to have a good time. Besides, it’s more convenient, and ultimately more affordable, for students to remain on campus grounds and attend a frat party.

Boston has a huge college population to support, so there is always avid nightlife to be found in the city. Tufts students have the benefit of quantity and variety in regards to bars, clubs, and parties, and students won’t be left longing for wild times as long as they’re willing to meet new people and get out and look for new places. So, the two biggest downsides here are that many clubs are overly expensive, and everything in the city closes at 2 a.m. Tufts has its own scene of parties and shows, but many students like to venture off campus looking for a little added spice over the weekends.

Don't be fooled!!

I don't know what this grahamstarr douche is talking about. Kids like grahamstarr - kids who like to "rip jello shots" while jamming to radiohead and having an intellectual stimulating conversation with some horse face broad - are the kids that might have fun here. The night life here sucks, and you can commonly find kids staying in the rooms on the weekend stuck on their computer and studying. Don't be fooled!!!

Lots of Nightlife

There are lots of parties going on around campus on weekends, especially at the fraternities and the many houses rented by students adjacent to the campus. There is free transportation by both the Joey (a busing service for Tufts students) and the Tufts campus police. Additionally the Tufts Police will offer rides at night back to ones dorm with no questions asked even if a student has been violating the alcohol policies. Lastly, overall, although there are alcohol policies in place, they are not strictly enforced.

Could Be Better

There are on-campus parties every Thursday-Saturday hosted by fraternities or special-interest houses, but the local nightlife scene off campus is basically restricted to those that are 21 or older. There are pretty regular events in Boston proper or at other schools in or around the city for those in between the ages of 18-21, but sometimes getting back from these events can be a hassle.

What to Do if You're Not 21What's This?

There are plenty of cool things for under-agers to do around Boston. Most clubs’ age requirement is 19 just to dance, and the Diesel Café, located at 257 Elm Street in Davis Square, has some nice pool tables and makes a killer latte. The Café is open until 1 a.m. on the weekends, and 12 a.m. during the week (www.diesel-cafe.com). The Somerville Theater (www.somervilletheatreonline.com), a historic landmark in Boston, can be found at 55 Davis Square. It’s a great place to check out for live music and movies, and the facility has an awesome old-fashioned feel. Lastly, no one should miss the Rocky Horror Picture Show put on in Harvard Square.
