How to Get to the Airport

  • A cab ride to the airport costs around $25
  • Driving: Take Highway I-93 South. Follow downtown signs until you see signs for the Callahan Tunnel/Logan Airport. At the bottom of the ramp, turn left into the Callahan Tunnel. After exiting the tunnel, stay right; the second exit is the airport access road.
  • Take the T. The airport stop is on the blue line.
  • The Turkey/Holiday Shuttle offered from campus directly to Logan.

College Prowler Take

Though a good majority of Tufts students bring cars to campus, many agree that they don’t really need to. Boston has amazing public transportation, and the T is not only super-affordable, but it takes you almost anywhere you would ever have to go in the Boston area. The bus is even cheaper than the T, but it’s not nearly as reliable—driving is preferable to the bus route any day.

A car is good if you need to go somewhere that isn’t on the T, and if you live off campus, it becomes very convenient for grocery runs. Don’t worry about having to walk to and from the parking lots—Boston is a very pretty city, which makes walking that much more enjoyable, and Tufts’ hill will enable you to graduate with rock-solid calves. Tufts also offers airport transportation shuttles and other services designed to make things easier for students. The campus safety shuttle, dubbed the “Joey,” is a good way to get around, and you can even take it up the hill to class if you’re feeling extraordinarily lazy. Overall, students are generally satisfied with the quality of transportation in town, and it does allow them a lot of independence.

The T is the worst public transport system I have ever experienced. It closes early, which forces you to use cabs or a DD if going out at night, and cabs are expensive. It also has a lot of gaps of where you can go. I've lived here, NYC, and DC, and Boston is way behind. Having a car is almost necessary to be able to have access to everything. I'm so glad I brought one during the end of my Tufts career.

The subway is very convenient. There’s a shuttle that runs from campus to Davis square, which is a stop on the ‘red line.’ Also on the ‘red line’ are Harvard, MIT, and South Station, where you can catch a train or bus to go basically anywhere in the country. The subway connects to all other parts of Boston, making everything really accessible. There’s also a system of bus routes that cover almost all of Boston, and the buses run right through Tufts, too.

Transportation is excellent. The shuttle takes us from campus to the main square. The subway can be a pain to wait for, and sometimes it’s easier to walk to Davis, the main square, but the T is better and cleaner than the New York subway lines.

Public transportation is the way to go in every instance. Boston’s a busy city, and cars definitely are not convenient. The subway is the best way to get around, and it branches out to all of Boston and its surrounding areas.

You have to take a shuttle to get to the T (the subway), which can be a bit inconvenient, but they have more cars circulating now.
