Tulane University - Campus StrictnessCollege Prowler3.08
College Prowler Take
Not a day goes by that you don’t see a TUPD officer on a bike, walking around campus, or manning the front desk of your dorm. It’s strange to think that the police are so highly visible and yet relatively lax, but this is definitely the case at Tulane. Cops simply shake their heads when they see drunk and disorderly students and do little to punish such behavior. The social life at Tulane is very dependent on alcohol, so they are used to seeing this kind of behavior year after year. New Orleans in general is very laid back when it comes to underage drinking. Drugs are a different issue, however, with both the campus and the city. If students are caught possessing or dealing drugs, NOPD is called in and the consequences are serious. The minimum penalty for possession involves a referral to health services, community service work, and parental notification; you can even get expelled and arrested for possessing certain substances. On the whole, TUPD is more concerned with the safety of Tulane students than with busting them. This attitude allows many students to have “favorite” TUPD officers and get to know them on a first-name basis. The relationship between TUPD and Tulane students truly is unique, especially in comparison to other universities.

Drinking is not taken that seriously on campus. If found with drugs, the consequences are a bit more severe, but not what they make it out to be. |
