Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Hands down, weather is one of the most cited reason for students coming to Tulane. It rarely drops below 50 degrees and almost never snows (although this year it did—for the first time in 20 years!). Hurricanes, however, are another matter entirely—there’s always the looming threat during fall semester, and students hope for a “hurrication” to take time away from school. When it rains in New Orleans, it usually rains very hard; this is especially true in the springtime. Even winters are humid at Tulane, though the wind chill makes it feel colder than it really is. It is advisable to bring a jacket for the coldest months, though if you’re used to northern climates, you’ll survive in a hoodie and jeans.

New Orleans is a warm and sunny place most of the time, which welcomes frequent use of swimwear and summer clothes. You can wear flip-flops during all seasons, but you’ll also want an umbrella and galoshes—any rain that lasts for over two hours ensures that the streets will be flooded.

Well, It IS New Orleans...

New Orleans is bipolar to the extreme; one day it will be 75, the next 50. And it could be either January or September. Also, even when it gets cold, it still tends to feel humid, which sort of settles in your bones. It also rains a decent amount, so bring rain boots and keep an umbrella handy. HOWEVER, there are palm trees and you can wear shorts year-round, so it is worth it.

NEW ORLEANS!!

New Orleans is in a sub-tropical climate region, and offers great weather year round. While it is humid the heat is great. It does get a little chilly from december to march (around 45 degrees as a low) but overall the weather is fantastic and is definitely one of the best parts about Tulane.
